should no be allowed to own pets

Dogs killed after attack on sheep

John Shrubsall said he doubted he would be able to breed from the sheep
A Kent farmer fears he may have lost his entire flock of prize-winning sheep following an attack by two dogs.

John Shrubsall found his flock of rare breed sheep either dead or injured on land in Eastling, near Faversham, on Sunday morning.

The two dogs were shot dead and police are trying to find their owner.

Mr Shrubsall, who is a judge and inspector for the Badger Face Welsh Mountain Sheep Society, said he was devastated by what had happened.

The dogs, a Rottweiller and a Dogue De Bordeaux, were discovered in the field of 10 sheep when he went to tend them at 0700 GMT.

One of the sheep had been killed and two more had sustained such extensive injuries that they had to be destroyed by a vet.

The other seven sheep also sustained injuries, and Mr Shrubshall fears they may too have to be put down.

The sheep had all been bred this year by Mr Shrubsall and his family, who have shown them at agricultural shows across the country.

He said eight were Badger Face Welsh Mountain Sheep and the other two were Zwartbles, a Dutch breed of dairy sheep.

"We have spent years perfecting these bloodlines and that has been destroyed in the space of 10 minutes," he said.

"I doubt I will be able to breed from these sheep now because of what's happened.

"I want to get the message across to dog owners that they have a duty of care to keep their animals under control."

As you say, some people shouldn't be allowed to have dogs.

I'm sick to death of taking our dog, Chance, for a walk on his lead and finding half-wits allowing their dogs to run free, making a nuisance of themselves and crapping where they like with no attempt to clean up after them.

We've been on lots of walks on land owned by Yorkshire Water who allow dogs provided they are on leads and our dog has been attacked twice by other peoples dogs - once by a pack of three dogs none of which were on leads and where their owners were too far away to intervene, leaving me to get between my dog and three slavering mutts where I've got no idea how they're going to respond. Then it's either our dogs fault for being attacked, or they've never done that before.

You can't reason with these idiots so the only option is to walk away - fortunately Chance hasn't sustained any physical injuries yet.
It's now getting to the point where we are wary about letting him get too close to other dogs when we're out for fear of what might happen, which is no good for him as he needs to socialise with other dogs and loves it when he can.

My Beagle is trained, well trained to my voice commands

I walk him off lead wherever we go and he responds to all commands, Heel, Sit, Drop and return (Heel is the command to stop whatever he is doing and return to the Heel position at my left leg)

Maybe its overkill for a family pet (he isnt a working dog) but Id rather go the extra yard rather then the rampant dogs we get here too

BTW Only took 1/2hr every day for 2 months as a puppy and he was doing all thiese commands

He's fine now thanks, although he had us a bit worried for a while.

Thank goodness for Petplan - this "virus" cost over £500 at the vets  Shocked

He's now hiding under the kitchen table when fireworks go off outside - had to drag him out for a walk tonight, poor lad.
