Tomorrow (Monday 21st) sees the launch of the new schedules on Radio 1.

Jo Whiley is relegated to weekend afternoons, Edith Bowman is almost unbelievably moved to weekend breakfast, both of whom have had massive success in their morning / afternoon shows in the past few years.

So who are they getting to replace these tow?

The vacuos and inane Fearne Cotton will be presenting from 10am in the morning. This is a woman who knows nothing about everything and could bore for England. Then afteroons will be hosted by Greg James, who used to present from 4am - 6.30am and seems like a nice enough bloke but has no edge to him. Everything is great, which by definition means it isn't.

Now I'm only too aware that I'm getting too old for the Radio 1 demographic, but what else if there to listen to?
Radio 2 can be OK, depending who is presenting, but King of the sycophants, Steve Wright with his scripted conversations? No thankyou! And the playlist is so broad in it's attempt to please everyone that it doesn't work for me.

Absolute has a better playlist but is AM only and therefore sounds like it's being played through a dustbin.

Radio Aire and Galaxy occasionally interupt the adverts for a spot of music, but not frequently enough to persevere with.

Radio Leeds is clearly aimed at the over-70's.

Thanks goodness I've got an iPod.....

Always hated Jo Whiley with a passion, overblown ego who thinks she knows music because she plays what she's told to. However the appointment of Fearne Cotton makes me cry out for Whiley's return. Cannot stand the airheaded cow. I (and a few others) booed her when she appeared on stage a Wembley for a short time before the Foo Fighters.

However I am a big fan of Greg James so whilst I'm sad to see Edith go I'm happy that I get to listen to Greg more often.

I don't like any of the others you mentioned except Radio 2, but you can get Absolute on a DAB radio as well as AM.

Jo Whiley is married to one of the top A'n'R men in the music business and before presenting mainstream was on evenings with Steve Lamacq championing new music, so probably knows a bit about music.  Wink The Live Lounge was a roaring success, for example.

You are of course right about Absolute being on DAB, but I haven't got a DAB wireless in the car, which is where I'll be listening during the day...

Cant remember the last time i listened to Radio 1. Chris Evans is taking over Wogans spot from 7.30 am Radio 2. The ginger one has had his knockers over the years but i think he is top drawer these days now hes got his act together.
