Thats it! After years of feeling I understnad the offside rule I am finally admitting defeat and saying I do not understand at all.

In fact why do we have it?!

No-one understands the offside rule!

I think they make it up as they go along! Besides this goal standing, there was another incident in the match where the dutch player was offside but he jumped over the ball as he knew he was offside and the ball went to another dutch player. Now if the ball went so close to him he had to jump over the ball, surely he was active! If an italian player can be off the pitch, nowhere near the ball and on his back injured and still be deemed active surely a guy in the path of the ball has to be active.

Lets just scrap the rule! Even horseface thought he was offside last night!

Normally I might agree. However, it was the Italians that suffered, and they are a bunch of girlie cheats....It was on side. Very Happy

I concur, If the Dutch had scored with the help of ten handballs against them it should have counted

If someone is OFF the pitch then they can't be ACTIVE as they CANNOT touch the ball (as the ball would be "dead" when it reached them!) - I have heard the "pitch" described as the "active field of play" before now
