If you're in England or Wales today is polling day.
You still have a couple of hours to go an exercise your democratic right. A right that people have fought and died to protect. Please make the effort if you haven't been yet.
I wouldn't presume to tell anyone how to cast their vote, but when I cast mine today I thought about the final salary pension I used to have, the fact my council tax has more than doubled in the last decade, the fact my tax burden has increased to over 40% of my hard earned wage in the last decade, the fact it now costs me over £50 to fill the tank of my small hatchback car with diesel and the fact that I can now be fined £85 for not putting my wheely bin in the right place at the end of the road were all thoughts in my mind. |

| Well, I voted for the councillor who has worked like a trojan for our community over the last few years. Alison Lowe, along with Jim McKenna and Janet Harper have been worth more than their weight in Gold. |

rather different voting here than twas at home, they're both areas where the same party is going to come out top year upon year but opposite parties
and was sad to see that the BNP were only a couple of thousand behind the Conservatives here

It's peoples right to vote for whoever they like. Thats the basic idea of democracy.
Although it could be said that if the "mainstream" parties actually listened to the electorate, there would be very few people voting for such parties. |

I never said there was anything wrong with people being able to vote for whoever they like... Its just sad that there has become such apathy for the big parties that people are looking to the more extreme parties for a voice

Indeed. Where I live has been a Labour ward for as long as I can recall.
This year we received two leaflets. A glossy one from the Labour candidate and a smaller one from the BNP candidate.
The Conservatives and the Liberals clearly didn't bother even attempting to get their message across.
The incumbent Labour councillor crept home with a majority of just over 100 votes over the Tory candidate. That is the smallest majority I have ever seen in this ward.
Given that Leeds council is currently run by a coalition with no one party having overall control, it seems that for the want of a little bit of effort, the Conservatives have lost what could have been a very winnable seat. |

| Kirkstell Burley is labour but we got leaflets from the three main parties and not the BNP, who where the only other option on the ballot

That was probably also said in Germany in the early 30's about the National Socialist party. |

That was probably also said in Germany in the early 30's about the National Socialist party. |
Actually the reasoning behind the voting for said party were far more extreme than have developed here. Germans were in a state of Hyper inflation and national crisis with a far weaker government that even we think we have. They quite rightly blamed the Versailles agreement which f*cked them completely and caused their problems, therefore they turned to someone who offered an alternative, and at the time the only alternative, and some sense of national pride. Most did not see the evil that was at the route of the party they saw as the answer or were easily swept up by the rhetoric and the fact that despite his evils Hitler was one of the best public speakers the world has known. There was nothing right about that choice or the party but under such extreme circumstances it is easy to be mislead. In this case some people see it as an extreme circumstance but they are the ones who would hold the racist beliefs that are presented by such parties even before being presented by them.

Obviously the situations are very different. one being a way of gaining retribution for the humiliation of the defeat and subsequant cuckolding of thier nation. However, are they that different. Yes the Nazi being very extreme, but look at how the BNP are pedaling thier manifesto. Immigration out of control, PC beliefs being got rid of etc.
Do you know what those idiots in the BNP actually claim that non british people are repatriated along with their heirs etc. That means my 2 grandkids will be sent packing. Tell you what, I'd die rather than some prick try that.
