I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this most puzzling of subjects.

Mortgages are up. Petrol / diesel prices are up (my nearest filling station has added 2p a litre to diesel just this week). Gas and electric prices are up. Council tax has more than doubled since Labour came to power and apparently most of us had a rise of around 10% this year. A loaf is up 11p. A dozen eggs are up a whopping 51p.

Yet I'm told that the official inflation figure (on which wage reviews are based) is only running at 2.5%.

How does that work then.. Question

The lady in Tescos commented on the increased cost of toilet rolls!

I said I hadn't noticed, as it was something that, really, one had to have  Rolling Eyes  Shocked

Laughing  Nice one master Darby

Often wondered the same thing ravey. CDs are down, clothes are dirt cheep (Primark ones not Harvey Nicks stuff Cool ), electronic goods are relatively cheaper now. Prostitutes are down (with decent happy hour two for the price of one deals common place Wink ), porn is virtually free these days. Taxis are cheaper (round our way anyway). Crap food is cheaper ie battery chicken nuggets, tasteless tomatoes etc. Places like Wilkinson’s and the like are great for cheap household stuff. I suppose all this goes to calculate the figures but inflation certainly seems to be a great big confidence trick to keep wages down.

I won't ask how you obtained certain snippets of information... Wink
