In 1997 I genuinely believed we were on the cusp of fantastic new era as 18 years of brutal (some say necessary) social and industrial reforms were brushed aside. Now more than a decade later im living in a landscape I never thought possible under a so called party for workers.
First time mortgages escalating to 6 times a normal persons salary compared to about twice in 1997.
Pensions eroded to nothing as the tax man and greedy corporations plunder them for their own coffers
Immigration managed in the most amateur idiotic incompetent way that has left many areas crime ridden no go zones and a black economy that admittedly is one of the few working class growth industries.
A war on two fronts justified by a huge lie
Country side and greenery stripped away to make way for insipid new housing developments to accommodate the rapidly expanding non organic population
A benefit, housing and health system that actually encourages people to indiscriminately bang out kids and sit on their arses all day by making that more financially viable than working.
Education a privilege for the wealthy.
The almost complete annihilation of pubs due to breathtaking arrogance and indifference towards a major part of our country’s heritage.
Council Tax bills doubling inflation every year due to central government starving local councils of funds
Fuel bills, transport costs and other utilities allowed to escalate completely out of check despite government price watchdogs.
Sleaze greed and corruption exposed time and again amongst a government that promised to make its abolition a priority
Bloody hell I could go on and on here but the final straw was the latest budget that to me epitomizes Browns hypocrisy and blatant disdain for people like me. If he thinks taking 200 quid off low paid single people who want to work rather than sponge and give it to me is going to get my vote he can think again. Does he really think I am that stupid? Couple that with the fact that he will only get it back through a 4P tax hike on ale makes him to me anyway the worst prime minister I think I have ever seen and simply not fit to run the country.
Is it really down to me to compensate his loss in revenue from pubs resulting in the smoke ban? Is it down to me to carry the cost of teenage binge drinking of shit cider and alcopops bought from supermarkets by paying more to drink this country’s finest product responsibly? Is it bollocks . Can anyone tell me just who is the political party for people like me because I really really do not know. |
Don't discuss this with me on the 15th, lifes too short for my responce.....Politics is too serious for me to debate on a footy forum TBH. |

True....2 very different worlds. The UK is mysteriously broke, despite apparent years of success, uncompetetive, mismanaged to the extent it punches well below its weight, and the political scene is dominated by self serving, sanctimonious, self publicising, lying, cheating parasites.
By contrast, the forum can talk about Leeds United and Ken Bates.

I can spare you some, your crisis is clearly more pressing than mine. I'll send you some Beechams too, to help you over the sniffles.

Hear ****ing hear.
Well bloody said - your post encapsulates my feelings exactly, although you forgot to mention the total dismantling of NHS dental care over the last few years.
I have never felt so let down by a party that claims to look after the welfare of the working man.
I am fortunate enough to live in a marginal constituency and WILL be making my vote count at the next General Election. Unfortunately at the forthcoming council election, due to different boundaries, Labour will walk it - they get over 70% of the vote normally where I live. |
