|
|
My PC is getting on a bit and not functioning at its best - I am low on space on my hard drive, windows updates don't work, lutv video clips don't work and now I'm having problems getting onto certain websites (not porn but hotmail, yahoomail and various sports sites of all things).
I was thinking of getting a new pc anyway given the age of my one. I was going to go for a new pc (windows based) as I have now but a mate of mine suggested that I go for an apple macs
Was in the shops today and was given a good spiel about apple mac - how many applications work just as well on mac and how you can still use word, excel and PowerPoint (which I need). That the internet works just as well using a mac. In fact he mentioned a bonus that with the mac's inbuilt security you don't need extra anti-virus etc programs to protect your computer from viruses and spyware and so on.
So does anyone have a mac?
what's it like compared to a pc?
would you recommend it?

Check if your ISP is Mac friendly - some aren't (like mine) so you might have to change provider if you take the plunge. Also check and double check everything you are going to need will work on it.
I know they are a bit pricey and if you're going to have to start buying new applications etc it all mounts up - although I've heard lots of good things about them...
That said with internet ready PC's available over here for £200 brand new, I don't think I'll be getting one. |

This so called "in built security" is a bit vague. It's not that the Mac's are better protected, but more like that the majority of viruses are NOT written to operate on Mac's! when I had one it had several hundred viruses on the HD, but didn't affect me, cos they could not use the Mac code! So they sit there harmlesslesy. The main virus that attacks the Mac's is a DOS (Denial Of Service ) virus. What that does is stop you using applications or the t'interweb. So it is still well advisable to have a seperate anti virus prog for macs as well!
The only reason I don't use on now is price. Also additional software, ie, MSOffice etc is very expensive.
out of the PC / Mac debate. For sheer performance and quality, Iwould go for mac, but as Ravey said, price wise, PC every time! |

| I chickened out and have taken the safe route, the known route and am getting a Windows PC.
