what? Is no-one talking about Harry? Trust the yanks to open their gob!
He's a soldier, he was always gonna be a soldier and as such should do a soldiers job.
For once I applaud the british media for their part in this.
Que - all the stories on telly and in the press now! That bit will be boring after all.....(see line 2)

What I found more surprising is that he's the first royal of any note to be on the front line since Queen Victoria's Grandson in 1915....
(I guess the article meant "front line" in an Army sense, as opposed to Prince Andrew acting as exocet bait in 1982?)

that confused me to, those who said he was the first for a long time.
For once the british media acted impecably by keeping their traps shut when asked, until the fuggin Yanks sound out

Presumably the yanks were informed where he was at ALL times! |
At the risk of going slightly OT (!), if anyone saw the Ross Kemp in Afganistan series, the British ground troops were very defensive of an American pilot who'd mistakenly killed one of their colleagues and injured others in a friendly fire incident.
Whilst mouring their losses, they also accepted that it was one of the risks of war and pointed out that other fast jet bombing runs had actually saved dozens of British troops lives. Essentially they were grateful that the Americans were at least putting their asses on the line and doing their bit - which is a damn sight more than many of our so called allies.... |

Had a talk when i was at school from a group from the RAF reg, they were very bitter about the Yanks, especially about the time they were called in to do a clean up after the yanks had stormed a town, and they had to help clear the bodies of the civilians with american bullets in them, including the young child with one in his forhead.
Whilest the USAF is the best air force in the world, their army has a long way to come to reach the standard of ours, a fact that is shown by the presence of many officers from around the world (including americans) trianing to be better by going through the basic training with new recruits at Sandhurst

I think you'll find that they are the second best air force in the world. The Royal Air Force remain the finest.

I don't doubt that for a moment - a fact that is bourne out by the septics now adopting typically British approaches towards their strategies.
The Americans are without doubt a fine, well equipped and aggressive fighting force - it's just they don't have the finesse or training our lads do.
They also aren't trained to think for themselves in many situations unlike UK forces who are able to adapt to whatever situation they find themselves in. |

Sorry this thread is going slightly off topic but a comment regarding our forces and the american forces.....
I have a friend who served in Iraq and the difference in "kit" between the americans and the british is unbelieveable - his regiment(?) would regularly swap stuff with the americans to get a better kit. I think (from a fast fading memory) that the only thing the british had to barter with was their food rations (although I might have this the wrong way around).
And this government want to CUT defensive spending_________________

And that is another New Labour Scandal. Sent to war on a lie without enough kit to do the job.
The British Army are known as "The Borrowers" by the Americans for obvious reasons.
Nearly a hundred years on and it seems we still have lions led by donkeys. |

As an ex soldier of 10 years, I like to ask the following
What does being in Iraq or Afghanistan have to do with "defence"?

I think the reasoning is that if you call it an "attack" budget, you lose the element of surprise.
