It should be the law that once the show has started (like a proper theatre) that is it, if you ain't in, tough.

The film we saw today had THIRTY minutes of trailers / adverts before it and still people managed to arrive AFTER the film had started....grrrr!  Evil or Very Mad

was the film crap too ?

No the film was fine, barring interruptions.

What about people who do the same thing at football matches or other sporting events?

"Energy saving" lightbulbs.

Despite now having then throughout (almost) the house I hate these things!

At this time of year the instant warm glow of an incandescent bulb is replaced by the pale cold dimness of the bloody things that take an age to warm up and produce proper light.

Then there is the fact they don't save any energy! Yes, the use less electricity when on (provided they are left on - they use a higher amount of electricity to power up) and they consume massively more energy and resources to make than a traditional light bulb. And they contain heavy metals, notably mercury, which means that they can't be disposed of in the normal way but have to go through special disposal procedures (which again uses more resources and energy).

And now they are being linked to an increase in seizures due to the almost invisible flicker they have.

Energy saving my arse!

That would be Tommo arriving from the pub or returning from the bar after half time.    Laughing

I'll have to remember to blame the light bulb the next time the Mrs has a headache and she complains about the constant 'Twitching' whilst she's trying to sleep.  Shocked  Shocked  Wink  Laughing  Laughing

The lead story on BBC Breakfast this morning was the dubious "low energy" bulb. Not quite the marvel we were told they are.  Shocked

The Royal Mail.

Now seemingly totally incapable of delivering anything other than junk mail as ordinary post, it's now become necessary to pay extra for "Special Delivery" to ensure that mail gets where it is going.

The amount of post that goes missing is bloody amazing.

As some of you may be aware, I have recently been made redundant and was signing on for about a month when a long awaited and many month previously planned holiday came up.  The jobsworth at the local jobcentre made me sign off for the duration of 7 days and I would be "allowed" to make a rapid reclaim when I got back!!!!

RAPID, are you kidding????????????????  "certainly Mr McGill, complete this form and return in next Wed (over 10 bastard days away) for us to look at.

Firgive me, but whats so fu*king rapid about 10 days??????????  Fu*k me, no wonder the country is on a hiding to bollox!!

It would have been so much quicker to go the route of the standard set up..  Un-bastard-beleivable!!

Sorry to hear that mate.
Clearly there is a valuable lesson here - don't sign off if you're going on holiday...I can't believe they f*ck you about so much for being honest.

Thing is as well, i was asking them to complete my mortgage insurance forms to send off and keep a roof over my head.  this arshole of a woman behind a desk said, we need to know everything about the insurance???  I told her, go bolox, once my mortgage is paid and you have told em i'm unemployed, I'm signing off perm.

Bolox to em!  DO NOT BE AN HONEST INDIVIDUAL WITH THE DSS IT GETS YOU NOWHERE

I'll tell you why they were asking about your mortgage insurance (PPI - Payment Protection Insurance):
Some policies pay YOU the relevant amount for you to pay whatever bill is covered (the mortgage in this case), while other policies pay whoever is owed the money direct (building society, credit card company, etc) which seems a much better idea to me.

However, the jobsworths at the DSS have decided that if the policy pays YOU directly for you to then pay the mortgage (in this case) then that is income. Because you are therefore receiving income then will then review your dole and if the amount you get from the insurance is above a certain amount they will stop your dole. This means that in nearly every instance your dole is stopped.

So you've been prudent enough to pay a bit extra each month to cover your payments in the event your income dries up, but the b*st*rds at the DSS doubly penalise you for doing the right thing.
They stop your dole so you have to live on the insurance payout and because you're not paying the mortgage with the insurance money you get kicked out of your house by the building society.

Welcome to 21st century Britain.... Evil or Very Mad

Time to ressurect this thread.

When did we start living in America?

Much as I like many aspects of the US of A, I wasn't aware that Britain had officially become the 51st State.

First of all coverage of the American election process.
Where they STILL haven't decided who wil be the candidates, but which  gobbles up whole chunks of news bulletins. ITV news are worst for this, simply slotting 10 minutes of coverage into their programmes from the likes of NBC or whoever. So you have American pundits talking about American politicians about the things Americans want to hear. No mention of stuff that is happening over here. GMTV even sent their professional Man Citeh fan (John Staplegun) to Washington for more coverage of Americans talking about Americans. WHY?????

Then the Super-dooper-bowl, where two teams take 4 hours to play an hour of sport. Does anyone on here think that the American networks deicate most of their sports segment to the FA Cup final? No they don't because they aren't interested. There is a parallel here. 99% of the UK public couldn't give a toss that the bloody thing is on.

Snow storms in Nebraska (where for I know it might snow everyday) - it's on the news, Tornado in Kansas - it's on the news. Wildfires in California - it's on the news. Leeds city centre floods -sorry, we're going live to America for more stock footage of a politician talking. I can only guess it's because it's cheaper than employing real journalists over here to go out and find some real stories...

Why are our media suddenly so interested in irrelevant tosh for the other side of the pond?

Plastic CD cases.

Why are they nearly always broken when you get the cellophane wrapping off?
And if the outer case is intact, the little bit that holds the hole in the CD always aflls to bits when you remove the CD.

Bah!  Evil or Very Mad

Escalators - why do people become immobile cripples as soon as they step onto an escalator. Its only a moving staircase, if there were solid stairs in their place, you'd walk so walk for crying out loud. Its not a ride to paraphrase Seinfeld - one foot in front of the other, change feet and WALK.
