Gotta say full marks to Wisey for the substitutions. I was a bit shocked when he brought both DeVries and Flo on to effectively have 4 strikers on (I was expecting DaCosta and maybe 1 more forward) but once agin he got it right with another last gasp goal from the subs.
Sounds like we rode our luck at times and had to win the battle rather than neat football but last season we seemed to lose the battle week in week out.

If I have a criticism it's that he should have made a positive change earlier (maybe da Costa or Westlake for one of the midfielders), because we weren't really creating much and we weren't in control either.
Good result, but I also think there is a lot of room for improvement. We must learn to play better against teams who sit back and hit us on the break rather than let us do it to them.

| Makes a nice change - last season goals conceded in the last 10 mins were as much of the reason for relegation as anything else - take those away and we might have escaped relegation even with the deduction.

I think we are gonna get a lot of teams, both home and away, that will simply stick bodies behind the ball and be delighted to get a point. Hopefully though we can continue to work hard for ninety minutes and importantly have the extra bit of wuality so that when we get the chance we take it and when the opposition get the chance we have a keeper that can make the difference.

It's a mistake to think that a team who set their stall out to defend resolutely and hit you on the break are only looking to escape with a point. It is, after all, the approach we've had in several games already this season.
That's the point though: if we are seen to be particularly dangerous on the break with speed and power up front, then more teams are going to say "we'll just defend deep in numbers and his them on the counter attack instead." We need to learn to be more dangerous and creative from midfield against such teams so they can't just stifle us by marking our strikers out of the game. We have to be capable of asking all sorts of questions of the opposition, whatever tactics they adopt.
I'm not saying Wise isn't aware of this, just that so far midfield creativity has been very much lacking and I'd like to see us improve this aspect of our play. I think the club has the playing resources to do so.

I think there have been signs in some games that the passing has been good although not consistently in games yet. Don't forget that the division we are in means most teams don't have skillful midfield (any decent player will be bought by bigger clubs) so they have midfield athletes that run, tackle etc for 90 minutes.
If we get in front in games early (rather than these last minute goals) it will probably mean teams having to attack us and us being able to play more football. Hopefully though if Costa can live up to the highlights reel then we may have someone to really worry other teams.
