According to Radio Leeds, the ref and Wisey "had words" at half time.
After the game, it is reported, that the ref told Wise to "**** off", in front of several witnesses.
Apparently this ref has dished out 96 yellow and 6 red cards in his last 24 games. Clearly a highly skilled professional then. What is he doing reff'ing league games? |

Probably a mate of Scally's.
So now we have the FL, FA and refs against us. What are they gonna throw at us next?

H-Bombs probably
Ref was a disgrace today. Even Eddie (usually as tactful as he can be) called him a clown and an idiot.

A Gillingham fans view of todays game..
| Quote: | Thoughs about today's match
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm really not sure what I make to day's result. A point is better than most would have expected pre-match, but when you consider that Leeds was down to 9 men for most of the match then it seems bad...
I though that up to the Leeds goal, Gillingham were giving as good as they got. It certainly was like a cup match were the underdogs sense blood from their bigger rivals and went for it. Both team had had half chances and although it wasn't against the run of play, I wasn't sure Leeds had done enough to deserve being in the lead. Incidently, did the Leeds goalscorer actually mean to score or did it kind of deflect off him - it happened too fast for me to be sure. Nevertheless it seemed a well worked training pitch type routine.
Leeds were probably the marginally better side for the rest of the half although as a Gillingham supporter, it was hartening that we didn't crumble as per normal.
In terms of the cards dished out, there was a few weak tackles that deserved cards for the cynicalism of the tackle. The Gillingham player who gave away the freekick just prior to the goal was certainly worthy of a card - it was a stupid tackle but had he let the player past, then the Leeds player would have had space to hit a shoot from outside the area. I think there was a few niggling tit for tat pushing etc with Sodje which definately winded up the first Leeds player to be sent off. Kandol (or whatever the spelling) tended to resort to complaining all the time and got booked for desent. The second, I'm informed was for sarcastically clapping the ref (I was explaining to someone what had happened at the time and was looking away when the ref dished the second). Stupidly for the player, sarcastically clapping the ref is considered desent and it was goodbye. I bet Wise was seriously pished off with him. Both yellows were avoidable.
Beckford's first I sure will be debated about as unlucky. Basically he was given offside, the whistle went but then he took another stride or two before treating the Leeds fans behind that goal to a great finish from range. Everyone else in the ground knew it was offside and it was another soft, avoidable yellow for a Leeds player. The second card was equally stupid. The fact all the Gillingham players had gone back for the corner, meant that when our fullback was about to launch the ball forward from the edge of our area, it would have either gone to one of the two Leeds players who was still back or more likely have been sliced out for a throw. Beckford did what could be considered to be a striker's challenge, and from where I was sitting missed the ball completely. It was always going to be another yellow and bye-bye
After the second goal, it was no surprise that Gillingham went all out attack. It was no surprise that we failed to score either, and not just because our players usually can't hit a barn door with a nuclear missile from 10 meters... The second half was largely 9 Leeds players, 4 Gillingham strikers and 3 midfielders in a somewhat cramped Leeds penalty area. Crosses were raining into the box but the sheer weight of numbers made a clear change near impossible. Even if our defensive players got their long range shots anywhere near the Leeds goal, the ball would have almost certainly hit someone en-route.
The second half saw some of the worse sportmanship from Leeds - although I'm sure Leeds fans would say any other team would do the same and those Leeds fans would be right. There was an excessive amount of time wasting by the Leeds keeper. If the referee hadn't already sent two players off at that point, the keeper would have been in danger of leaving the pitch early too. In one instant just prior to his booking, I actually timed the keeper - stand on the edge of the 6 year box with the ball in his hand, he then 'examined' the ball for a while, then spun it between his hands briefly as if he was then looking for a mark on the ball. He then 'examined' it again, before putting the ball down on the line, walked back 4-5 steps, waited a number of seconds before taking a step foward and then a couple of extra steps to kick it. All in all took between 45-50 seconds to take a goal kick from the time he was actually on the 6 yard box with the ball in his hands. I said to my g/f at the time that I bet he got booked before the end. And then there was the incident after the second sending off. About 20 seconds before the game was due to restart (after the Leeds players surrounded the ref to complain), he took hold of the ball and drop kicked it over the ground and the houses behind. A clear sign of desent and if the Gillingham ballboys hadn't been quick to provide a new ball before the ref realised what had happened, the keeper might have been in danger.
Leeds also gave away quite a few 'deliberate' fouls further up the pitch to stop play on the occassions the ball left the Leeds half. As I said at the start, most teams would have adopted such tactics in some form of another.
Andy Hughes I thought was lucky in the first half not to get sent off as well - a couple of bad scything tackles might well have resulted in a couple of yellows in another game. Certainly was surprising since all the other cynical tackles had resulted in bookings at that point.
And latest news from the PA:
It also emerged after the match that Leeds manager Dennis Wise was also sent off after having "words" with the referee. Following the match Wise said:
"The big issue here is that, at the end of the game, the referee has told me
to '**** off'.
"I think is totally and utterly unacceptable and we as a club will be reporting him. I have three witnesses who are going to back me up, so well done to the ref, he got the headlines he obviously wanted."
He concluded: "The ref has sent me off at half-time because I've said something that I shouldn't have done. But it seems there are two different sets of rules."
So that is three Leeds red cards...

Forgot to mention that their goal scorer made 6 fouls before he got booked. Should never have been on the pitch to equalise. Ref was a fucking disgrace. John Terry attempts to grab a red card out of a refs hand last week, fuck all done about it. Douglass asks a question, and gets booked. FFS!
Where is the fucking consistancy we were told was going to happen._________________

Funny old game......Kandol....I was parallel for his first yellow for elbow....At least I think that is what the ref signalled?....It looked to me just like a striker jumping against a defender. For his second yellow, and again, right in front of me, Kandol applauded the ref, obviously with sarcasm, for giving a free kick in his favour....Result of this petulent act....Off. Beckford's first yellow was amusing, the second was farce.
When Casper got booked, he was booked for pointing out that a Gills player had (and he did at full arms length) try to control the ball with his hand....No Gills booking?
Don't get to many games, but if this is the level of refereeing, I am glad I don't. I had a charming pensioner Gills fan sat next to me. We agreed that the ref had spoiled a competition. He thought my rendition of sing when you're drawing was funny ( if not spent)...The sad fucks behind us resorted to name calling and minor abuse
Struggle on for a few weeks without strikers I guess

| Anyone got any links to the highlights for this match? i tend to miss out on ITV's sunday show as I play Sunday league when it is on and can never be ar$ed to record it (plus living in enemy land I get Granada TV so they'd probably show more of the lancastrian teams than Leeds).
