The 15-point deduction suffered by Leeds United is causing the biggest administrative headache for English football since the Carlos Tevez controversy over the summer almost derailed the Premier League.

Leeds, who have responded by winning six successive League One games to wipe out the deficit, are expecting an FA board meeting next Monday, furnished with all the appeal evidence, to rule on whether an independent commission should have the final say.

Leeds believe this is the least they deserve, insisting that the Football League clubs who voted for their punishment all had vested interests. They also point to last season's decision by an independent panel allowing West Ham to escape a points deduction.

However, the FA are still not satisfied that their board are in a position to make a judgment on the Leeds affair. They may now pass the issue to their head of governance Jonathan Hall to rule on the appeal in consultation with the still-tobe formed Football Regulatory Authority.

It was obviously only imposed so that we wouldn't have the league won by Christmas - guess we have to wait till Easter now! Cool
