Just been listening to guy on R5live who was talking sense.

they were discussing the lack of strength in depth of the english national team due to the number of 'foriegn' players in the EPL.

the guy was saying that Scottish football had already gone through this, but about 6 years ago the TV deal collapsed and there wasn't the money in scottish football to pay for the foreign players so they had to rely on home grown footballers and acadamies.

It sounded a sensible argument to me.

Sounds sensible to me too. Teams these days I think want the "quick fix" by bringing in foreign talent rather than bringing through young home grown talent. Until this changes, the national team will always struggle IMO

When the captain of your national side is getting more than £120,000 per week to play for his club - "playing for your country" slightly reduces in importance........

I agree with the above.

Watching the game whilst also having an eye on the eggball game, it seemed to me that the team played better than they have for long time. It looked like some of the players had something to prove. The 'stars' were missing and those playing looked like they wanted to and also want to again. Players names should NOT be automatic on the team sheet, they should be there on merit.

Footnall at the highest level in England has been manufactured and molded into a brand that Sky can market. The influx of overseas players, to such a degree that Home Nation and ROI players are in a minority, can on;ly lead to the demise of the national sides. The EPL used to be an interesting and competitive league, wher any of 6 teams were capable at any one time of winning it. Go back to restricting overseas players.
