Jewell could return at Leeds

FORMER Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell is expected to be back in management by Christmas and Leeds United could be ready to target him.
Reports in Yorkshire claim a wealthy business consortium considering rivalling Ken Bates for control of the Elland Road club, want Jewell as manager should they land the chance to take charge.
It's understood they see Jewell as the ideal man to come in and revive Leeds' fortunes. It's a challenge Jewell may fancy - he is based in neighbouring Ilkley and has vowed to be back once he is refreshed after taking a break.
Ironically, Wigan are scheduled to play a pre-season friendly with Leeds.
Jewell is said to be highly- rated by many influential people within Elland Road and should a vacancy for the manager's job arise, he is bound to be on the shortlist.
Meanwhile, Wigan today hope to complete the double signing of West Ham striker Marlon Harewood and Fulham midfielder Michael Brown.
Harewood has spent the weekend thinking over a £4m move to the JJB Stadium, and talks with Fulham to land Brown are ongoing.
Wigan hope to finalise the Harewood deal today and the player will then fly out to Holland to join his new team- mates on their pre-season tour.
Birmingham City have also targeted Harewood but Wigan feel they can stave off competition.
Wigan manager Chris Hutchings wants Harewood to lead the attack alongside Emile Heskey.
Brown, the former Scumchester City junior is wanted for a central midfield role and Fulham are likely to accept Wigan's £3.5m offer.
It does however, appear increasingly likely that news of two more arrivals will force the departure of Henri Camara, who has interested Bolton, Blackburn and Newcastle.
Hutchings is still hopeful of persuading England Under-21s defender Leighton Baines to stay and there is even talk of a new revised contract but Sunderland and Everton refuse to drop interest. |
