No and no.

'twas at the excellent Travellers, tucked away at Hipperholme for the Pale Gold, then on to the delightfully named and even more tucked away Cock o' the North for the Bantam.

We've got a visit to the Parish Gates / Three Pigeons next month so I'll try and remember to sample the Silver King then.

On this day in 1785 Joseph Bramah patented the beer pump handle. Three cheers for him!

Very Happy

Visted the Shears on Friday evening and t'was in fine form. I can recommend the Copper Dragon Golden Pippin.

We then mooched up the big hill to the Three Pigeons, where all was not well.

They had no Silver King, so I partook of the Pale Gold once more (very nice), but there were grumblings from the table next to ours about the quality of the beer they'd been served. After a visit to the bar, much muttering and three quarters of a pint apiece they left.

Then the Staropramen went off and they had no more, forcing one of my drinking colleagues onto some bottled Dutch lager (Lindeboom?). Then the Pale Gold went off (same round) and once put back on, the next pint didn't seem quite so good.

So we abandoned the pub and went for a curry at the Sultan Mahal  Very Happy

Bit surprised about t'Pigeons as it's an Ossett Brewery house and the place is normally spot on, so perhaps it was just an 'off night'. There was certainly a lot of charging about betwixt the bar and the cellar and while busy it certainly wasn't rammed.

Shocked  Shall be asking my man in the know in the Rat about this.

Some good news from the fair town of Udders. There's an ace bar called the Zephyr which i guess is our equivalent to Mojos in Leeds. The only negative is that there is no draught ale (Some splendid Erdinger but that is another story  Razz ) Anyway the rather brilliant Leeds Brewery Beers will be served on Draught and in Bottles very shortly

Whats happened to mine host? Not heard a peep for a while.  Confused

Anyways, the Copper Dragon brewery at Skipton has a new visitors centre, so we thought we'd give it a try.

Except it's only open to pre-booked groups...  Rolling Eyes
I'd politely suggest that they get themselves across to Masham and see what a money spinner a properly run visitors centre can be... Rolling Eyes

Bit of a sabbatical mate, nowt seriouse  Cool .
That is poor of Copper Dragon, bad form and no mistake. Any way, we got a couple of new 'udders breweries producing great ale in the E.L now. Empire Brewery at Slaithwaite and Mallinsons of Lindley, first Class. And the excellent Zephyr bar in town has got Leeds Pale on tap. Almost drowned in the stuff a couple of Saturdays ago, took me till last Wednesday to get mi ducks in a row. Too old for major sessions these days or at least the aftermath  Sad

Important News For Yorkshire Day

As you'll already know it's Yorkshire Day this coming Saturday 1st August.

But did you know that to celebrate their 151st birthday, Timothy Taylors will be charging just £1.51 a pint in their own pubs (like the Town Hall Tavern) on Yorkshire Day?

Ive just geard that the Plummet line in Halifax has been awarded Cask Marquee status. Does this mean its back on form?

Does that mean they've got a big tent?

They've had three "proper" beers (if you count Tetleys, which is the regular, plus 2 "guest" ales) on for a good while now, so presumably it's something they're taking seriously.

Certainly whatever I was drinking in there on Christmas Eve after work went down well...(possibly Bombardier?) Wink

I might suggest it for next months St Ivel, so I'll let you know. Lewins (opposite) also has at least one proper beer on now, which has been Black Sheep the last few times I've been in. Baraccuda (next door) is a real ale desert and has been for years and given they charge THREE QUID for a Coke we tend to avoid giving them our custome

A few pints after work last night saw me partake of the always reliable Spitfire from Shepherds Neame in The Plummet Line, which is now a "Cask Marque" pub.

Then off to the magnificently named "Hairy Lemon" where I enjoyed a pint of Fuggles from Saltaire Brewery. By goodness thats a good pint!

I've never sampled the Saltaire Brewery's wares before, having being put off by their rather insipid pump clips (neither traditional in style like TT's or Ossett Brewery, nor modern like Leeds Bewery) and have chosen to go with what I know, but I won't be fooled again.
