Scarborough. It was "cut off" at one point this afternoon with literally several centimetres of snow having fallen.
Calendar (the local ITV news programme) was having a major giddy fit because TWO INCHES of snow had fallen on Garrowby Hill!!! By 'eck - send for the St Bernard rescue dogs...what a load of over reacting tosspots the media are. |

At one point yesterday afternoon I couldn't get home! My colleague, who lives in Cumbria, and uses the A66 couldn't get home and had to stay with family elsewhere.
The snow came down like dinner plates accompanied by driving winds creating 3 ft drifts in places. The wind was bitter and biting! Its a long time since we had weather like that - we used to get it every winter.
The problem was that the cars slowed down, cos they couldn't brake! They then lost momentum and ground to a halt - rear wheel drive BMW having the most difficulty! The snow built up on the roads and hey presto....blocked roads & gridlock!
No-one had (or needs usually) snow tyres or snow chains. Now the snow was forecast so why were these people travelling? Answer - no-one believes the weathermen! We don't drive in these conditions very often and are not prepared hence we can't cope.
In France recently travelling to resort in a blizzard the bus driver was swinging the bus around hairpin bends going up a mountain side but he's used to that!
