The following is a copy from the thread on Waccoe...no link to the source
| Quote: | Smith arrived at St James' Park in the summer from Scumchester United in a £6million deal.
"Everything since I have gone there has gone really well and we have put ourselves in a good position," Smith told skysports.com.
"We know that we can play better, we have not played brilliant football. But we have given ourselves a good base to start off with and we can build on it and who knows where that can take us."
Smith also does not subscribe to Newcastle's tag of underachievers.
Underachievers
"A lot of people say that, say they (Newcastle) have underachieved but until you achieve something how can you underachieve?" he said.
"It is up to us to achieve, everyone says they want to win when they go there but it will not happen over night.
"But we have got a manager and a staff now that want to build and bring in good players and want to challenge for honours."
The England international insists he has not been disappointed with life under Sam Allardyce.
Attraction
"He was one of the main reasons why I went there," he said.
"Because of the regime he wanted to put together - he wants to establish a club that he knows - which is not always pretty football but we are in this for results, we want to get results."
The former Leeds star also admits that he is delighted to see his former club on a high.
"It is good to see, and good to see the support they have been getting and with backing like that in League One it is unbelievable," he added. |
