(Not) giving blood.

As you'll see from my sig. (below) I wholeheartedly endorse this simple but incredibly important act.

So, I signed up myself. Filled in the form, had a little interview and was put on the comfy bench thingy and all ready to donate. Except they couldn't find a vein. Now I'm sure I had some, but apparently there are "guidelines" that they can only try a certain number of times and then they have to stop - even if you don't mind.

So I was told to come back in a fortnight, which is how long you have to wait, so I booked myself in.

Then I turned up at the appointed time and was turned away. Apparently they were short of staff and some machine was broken and they had phoned everyone who was booked in to rearrange.
Except me, of course, because no-one had phoned me which is why I was stood there on my day off.

OK, says I, can I book in for next week?
Apparently not. I needed to ring back next week - or the week after. But certainly not today.

Hmmmm.....!  Rolling Eyes

I'll try again next month.

Other drivers (again).

No-one every acknowledges you (let alone says thankyou) when you let then into traffic when it is your right of way.

A green light means go - not stop faffing about with your radio / hair straightners / chatting and look all surprised.

The gap I've left between my car and the one in front is my safe braking zone. It is not somewhere for you to nip into rather than getting in the right lane in time.

And finally I'd like to say a big and sincere "Thankyou" to every w@nker on the M62 tonight who delayed my journey home by 20 minutes slowing to a crawl to look at the lorry that had been stopped by the police - on the hard shoulder of the OPPOSITE carriageway!!!!! 20 minutes of first gear crawl then suddenly it's like Wacky Races once you'd all had a good gawp.

Sports Direct (formerly Sports Soccer) aka "Scratter Sports".

This place really, really ticks me off.

mrs ravey wanted a pair of walking boots and this shop carries a decent range of Karrimor boots, which is quite sufficient for our needs and are sensibly priced.

Indeed I have Karrimor boots and "approach shoes" (off road trainers) and they have the added benefit of being wearable straight out of the box and not needing blister inducing wearing-in.

So we called in at the branch at Crown Point on our way home to purchase a pair. mrs ravey found a pair she liked, eventually found a staff member to get them in her size and all was well.
Until we got to the till and found them now wanting £5.00 more than the price on the shelf, claiming that either a) the price on the shelf was wrong or b) we were trying it on.
Now, it's possible it was a genuine mistake on their behalf, but a month earlier I was buying a pair of boots in there and guess what - the price on the shelf was wrong then as well and the actual cost was £10.00 more!
Anyway after waiting 10 minutes for "the manager" he eventually arrived, then went to check the shelf and then came back muttering about his employees under his breath. The boots were duly rung up at the advertised price.
Smashing.

Except we also had a voucher for 5% off, printed from their website. This was rejected as the lass on the till didn't know how to process it and when "the manager" came back he said he couldn't accept it as we'd printed it off. I explained that yes, we had printed it off - from their website.

What a pile of shite. I shan't be darkening their door again and I'd urge you to do the same. It's no wonder Mike Ashley is a millionaire given the way his staff treat his customers.

Bradford....

Never felt as uncomfortable in my life as I did on Monday on an estate trying to get a story while everyone stared or refused to comment out of fear.

Them there people that drive at just under the speed limit, and are having a chat, speed up a bit, then slow down, then both look out the same window and point and chat and go about 20MPH, then speed up etc etc etc.

Welcome back fella - and I agree for what it's worth.

Anyhow, here's another one:

The appalling level of service that passes for acceptable in this country.

mrs raveys watch needed a new battery, so we took it to a local shop for a new one. You know the sort of shop - started off as a cobblers but now cuts keys, does engraving, makes signs and trophys etc, and has a sign in the window stating they are a watch specialist.

So the bloke quotes her £5 for a new battery and we agree. He priises the back off the watch with the special tool takes the old battery out and tests it on his little machine. This confirms it is indeed flat so he gets a new battery out and spends 5 minutes trying to fit it.
He then asks if we can call back in half an hour when he'll have it sorted. No problem as we have some other shops to visit.

When we get back he is chatting with someone else about a job he's doing on the side for them, so we have to wait for the other workr to finish what he's doing and serve us. The watch is just laid on the side behind the counter and immediately on passing it to mrs ravey she notices that the numbers have been dislodged from the dial and are loose behind the glass, so asks what has happened.

Bloke number 1 then denies this is anything to do with him. I point out that we'd seen him spend 5 minutes trying to force the battery in before he'd asked us to come back later. He then gives us some guff about his "fingers were going numb" so he thought he'd leave it for a few minutes, then implied it must have been like that when we brought it in. I'm not entirely sure why we'd want a battery fitting to a watch that had half the numbers loose at the bottom of the dial though.
To my mind he's tried to force the battery in (it's held in with a spring) which has stressed the mother of pearl dial and caused the numbers to come off.

He grudgingly agreed to send it to their jeweller for a professional opinion.

So mrs ravey is now more than dischuffed that a (fairly expensive) watch I bought her for Christmas is now knackered when all she wanted was a battery fitting. We shall await the phone call once said jeweller has given his opinion.

Doing a quote for a client which has the potential to bring 100,000 new visitors to his website per year (for £1200)

And he umms and arrs and puts the decision off for a few months.......

Where else could he get 100,000 people to visit his website in a year for £1200 quid?

Having to go back to Bradford for 10 minutes because you forgot to take your pass back on Friday and they wouldn't let you post it back.

I could visit it that much on my own in 3 months for £1199.

Charley Boorman.

Best known as Ewan McGregors mate on the telly and occasionally remembered for being in a film directed by his dad.

He was just about tolerable in Long Way Round / Down where his boorishness was countered by a worthy cause, an interesting travelogue and Ewan McGregor actaully appearing to be a decent bloke.

Now he has his own show "By Any Means" - cunningly retitled "Charley Boorman By Any Means" for series 2, just in case you forgot it was actually all about him, which tries to trade on the idea behind Long Way...but without the aim of raising money for Unicef.
Instead we have a posh bloke who has clearly never done a days work in his life, tossing it off around the world making fun of the poor natives or ensuring that regardless of what else is happening that he is the centre of attention, thus missing the entire point of a travelogue show.

FFS he even managed to make sure that a motorbike ride alongside Aussie legend Wayne Gardner was instead focused entirely on Charles Boorman Esq.

I thought posh tw*ts like him had become a thing of the past. Clearly I was wrong.

"Back Order" - if you work in anything involving cars, engineering or obtaining of spare parts, you'll know what I mean.

In a professional capacity it's annoying enough - I'm currently dealing with a motorbike and a sports car where parts are on back order and no-one can gives me a delivery time. This, apparently, is my fault!

But in a private capacity it's even worse! I've been saving up for a new camera and now I've got the cash, the one I want is out of stock virtually everywhere except Jessops, who are charging £50 more than anyone else (which probably explains why they have stock!).

So, it looks like tomorrow I'll be driving to the dark side (St Helens) to buy one from a small independent shop, rather than having it delivered into my waiting hands by a nice chap from City Link or DHL after placing an on-line order......

It's less than a week since the clocks went back and I'm already fed up with the number of cocks driving about with ridiculously badly adjusted headlights.

They can't not know, as they drive along illuminating the sky and as headlight alignment is supposed to be checked on the MOT I can't for the life of me imagine why there are so many of the ignarant fools about.

Oh - and rear fog lights - a second press of the button turns them off, you don't have to wait until summer..... Evil or Very Mad

Women and shoes.

I've just started working at M&S (a decent McJob thanks Ravey) and I'm working on the womenswear section for some incomprehensible reason. Anyway, women look through the shoes all day everyday, but none of them ever put them back where they came from, it's not that that bothers me, it's the random single shoes that are dotted about the place. Why would you wander to a different section with one shoe? Or (as in many cases seems to happen) why would you nick one shoe?
