Up and downs...

OK, so I've posted the likely scenario's that will affect us in the promotion stakes elsewhere, but what about the rest of the leagues?

(borrowed from the BBC)

The Championship aka Division 2

Two teams are promoted automatically, with the next four taking part in the play-offs. Wolves are promoted after beating QPR and need a point to become champions.

Birmingham and Sheffield United are guaranteed at least a play-off place, but Cardiff and Reading are yet to clinch theirs.

The bottom three teams will be relegated to League One. Bottom club Charlton are relegated and two more will join them, with everyone up to Coventry in 16th not mathematically safe.

League One aka Division 3

Two teams are promoted automatically, with the next four taking part in the play-offs. Leicester City confirmed their rise to the Championship and the League One title with a win over Southend.

The bottom four teams will be relegated to League Two. Hereford have filled one of those slots after their loss to Colchester, but Cheltenham still have a mathematical chance of staying up after beating Crewe.

League Two aka Division 4

Three teams are promoted automatically to League One, with the next four taking part in the play-offs. Leaders Brentford remain on the brink of promotion after their 3-0 win over Accrington Stanley. Fourth-placed Bury beat Macclesfield by the same scoreline to keep the Bees in sight.

Luton Town were relegated to the Blue Square Premier on Easter Monday after a 0-0 draw with Chesterfield. It looks as though one out of either Chester, Grimsby or Bournemouth will join them - and the Cherries still have to play both their relegation rivals. Here's hoping it's Bournemouth then, for obvious reasons....

Blue Square Premier aka the Vauxhall Conference

The Blue Square Premier's champions will be promoted to the Football League, together with the play-off winners. Burton Albion will seal promotion if they do not lose to Torquay on the final day or if Cambridge fail to win their last match of the season against Altrincham.

Bottom club Lewes were the first team in England's top five divisions to be relegated, on 24 March, and Northwich joined them on Easter Monday, despite beating Mansfield.

Relegation rivals Weymouth and York both picked up points and, with the two sides still to play each other, Northwich can no longer escape the bottom four.

Four teams will be promoted to the Blue Square Premier - the champions and play-off winners of the Blue Square North and South divisions.

AFC Wimbledon are closing in on the Blue Square South title, although Hampton & Richmond and Eastleigh retain hopes of catching them.

I have always wondered what happens if the bottom four don't comprise 2 north and 2 south. they don't have uneven leagues do they?

You know, I don't know. That's a good question.

Clubs can be transferred horizontally between leagues of the same level in the pyramid, in order to maintain regional balance.

Ah, so if you're in the Midlands, you face being moved about to even things out, even if you've not been involved in a promotion or relegation abttle?
Garp

That is my understanding.

They can have Sheffield as well if they'll take it....

Stamford used to play in the BGB southern league till the last reshuffle. Now they play in the Unibond Div 1 south.

This change meant they have to travel much further each season and as a result a large number of their players (who are part time) left the club because they couldn't commit to it.
