The Specials are mentioned in the blurb that accompanies the series.

It's not that unusual! I'll be I actually watch little more than an hour of telly a day most days (that is watch, rather than simply being in the room when soaps, for example,  are on and being watched by someone else.

Programmes I actually make a concious effort to watch are very few and far between - Ashes to Ashes, Ross Kemp in Afghanistan, Kingdom, Shamless and Harry Hills TV Burp are all that springs to mind from current offerings.

I have not watched a soap since my daughter went to uni and that was Oct 2000! they aren't even on in the background.

Of the above, I enjoyed ashes to ashes but as I now understand it it has lost a bit of its mystique  Sad  , Kingdom is lighthearted Sunday night entertainment, Shameless has lost its way, can't bear Harry Hill and don't have Sky.

I quite enjoy Torchwood (I think) and I love Grand Designs. The programme I watch most is SSN! and if I'm in on my own I listen to R5L. I love the radio cos you can do other things whilst its on. Radio one to wake up to, Radio2 to drive home to and radio 5Live if all else fails.
eddiesleftfoot

Finally saw the 1st episode and then the 3rd (??) last night. Gene is still quality; love the perm on the fat cop but not too keen on Keely Hawes. Will give it a chance but this could be like the "difficult" second album.
30 Mill

Ep 1 Series 2 just aired on Thursday (hate to tape it as it seems watching the tele on Valentines Day means something later that night will prob get cancelled!!)

Good plot again but I thought he was getting a tad "angsty" - ok OTT ANGSTY but still all good so far
wewantourdarbyback

I have seen those first two eps and i think its good.. obviously it isnt as good as LOM as of yet,

It seems to be trying too hard to be a sequal to LOM and at the same time be a completely seperate entity
raveydavey

I'm loving it so far, although Keely Hawes has yet to convince me - she was good in Spooks and Tipping the Velvet, but here...perhaps its the character / script she's been given, but the jury is till out.

There is clearly a switch to a more comedy driven feel, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The music is bloody fantastic, although a its a double edged sword - that the show is set 27 years ago and I can remember it all... Cool
NE1

"fire up the quattro" has become our adopted catch-phrase when we go out as Mr NE1 drives an Audi A3 quattro.

Still not convinced about the programme though (won't say why don't wonna spoil things for the oz contingent)

Without wishing to cause offence, I hope Mr NE1 is a proper Audi driver and not actually a BMW driver who is seeking to avoid being labelled a nob by driving something less oafish?  Shocked

Just watched the third episode on the iPlayer, and i'm pretty sure its getting better as it goes along

Last weeks one here they showed our very own Holden Monaro, you call it a Vauxhall Monaro I think,, Still it werent as fast as me Valiant charger in the 70's

Now we've had a few weeks, ther new show is settling in.

It's a good show, but doesn't live up to the high standards of the original LOM. sadly the Gene Genie has been watered down considerably - or is he meant to have mellowed with age (he doesn't look much older!)

It also falls into the trap of not knowing if it's a comedy, or a drama, or a comedy drama. Or a political thriller judging by last nights show.

Still, it's one of the few shows worth watching on the telly.

PS - anyone else spot the Austin Maestro van outside the police station when Gene drove off? Tut, tut, they weren't around in 1981... Rolling Eyes

Mr NE1 would like to make it very clear that he has neither had nor does he ever want a BMW Rolling Eyes

As to the driving, he is a typical Audi driver   Rolling Eyes but then the car does go like 'shit off a shovel'  Shocked  Very Happy

Its not realy winning me over either. Been a few blatent Musical Errors as well. London Calling 1981. album was released in 1979

Buzzcocks Autonomy was positively nostalgic as well by 1981

More from sad pedantics corner as the series goes on Laughing
raveydavey

Final episode of the first series tonight.

My overall opinion of the series has been well, average.

It has little of the ingenuity or pace of LoM and they have been really lazy with external locations - nearly all crime in London in 1981 clearly happened on the same industrial estate. Plus attention to detail has been poor - a sure sign that corners are being cut.
Anyone else spot the 2001 Merc Sprinter van a couple of weeks ago...? Rolling Eyes

The music has (mainly) been excellent and there have been moments of sheer brilliance, but these have been few and far between.

The main crime though has been reducing the Gene Genie to a caricature fit only to be wound up and let loose with a one-liner.

LoM was the TV highlight of the week. A2A is simply the best thing on a Thursday at 9pm.

I'll watch tonight, but I'm fully expecting a non-ending / cliff hanger as options are already in place for Series 2. I'm torn between hoping they'll end it here and spare us more of the same averageness, and praying they make the second series what we should have had this time round.

what ^^ he said.

That is indeed a quality collection of music, Got to say that although ive watched every episode at least once and enjoyed it, it felt unfulfilling. Ive been trying to put my finger on why and I think it centers on the crux of the plot. I found myself squirming over the relationship she had with her Mum and especially her step dad. It just seemed so unreal. Maybe it’s me just not getting all this parental relationship bollocks but the central plot about her wanting to get back to her Daughter whilst been admirable enough just wasn’t interesting.

Everything else was spot on though. I think there is a bit of the Gene Genie in all blokes of that sort of age Shocked and i think he played it with real purpose . I thought the most entertaining things were often the little side issues going on and the minor characters.
NE1

the best thing about the programme was the Quattro  Smile

Finally - They released the DVD's to LOM Season 2

First few episodes were a bit "farken hurry up and get yer leg over" are all modern day Englishman as soft as Sam Tyler????

Anyway the last 3 eps worked up nicely to a reasonably fitting end. Even if some twonk had told me he jumps, I wasnt prepared for the "happy ending" bit

Overall a great series (not as good as any of the Auf Wedersehein ones but much bteer than most)

Moving on is Ashes to Ashes on DVD in the UK yet?

Whilst on the goggle box, whats everyones opinion of Lewis?? which imho is now this years favourite so far

Not that I approve of illegal downloading of copyrighted material..
