Is it any wonder?

The traditional mainstream parties now ignore large, indigenous sections of the electorate.

One of the new councillors comments is "Young people in this ward have said they find it almost impossible to get a council house". Thats not rumour mongering, its a fact. There are whole swathes of Leeds that were white working class areas when I was growing up, but in the last 10 years or so have changed culturally, probably forever.
There is a whole estate in Leeds where people who had lived there for years were moved out while refurbishment work was carried out on the promise of first dibs on the homes on moving back after the work was completed. Dozens of the people deny that they were given the opportunity yet numerous asylum seekers were moved into the newly refurbished homes.

Were the electorate asked if they'd like an open door policy on immigration? No they weren't but it was foisted onto them and anyone who raised concerns was immediately shouted down as a racist.

It suited the dual purposes of those in power of promoting "multi-culturalism" and of keeping wages down by ensuring a steady stream of people ready to work for minimum wages. Look at the service industries - cleaning, catering, hospitality for examples.

For years non of the mainstream parties have even dared engage in a debate on the subject, lest they be shouted down as racist - a foul slur that is all too readily bandied about nowadays.

They BNP also offer to get involved in local issues, rather than 6-form politic points scoring that the other parties love so much. At this by-election they promised to "crack down as much as they can on vandalism and the gangs of youths that we get". Another serious concerns and another problem that has been allowed to flourish under Labour.

The problems aren't as simplistic as I've made out here, nor are they easily resolved, but while the other parties pretend the problems don't exist, won't act  and won't listen to the concerns of the electorate then there will be room for the extremists - on both sides.
