The end of the wonder of Woolies? While it's sad to see the likely demise of a once much loved British retail institution, I can't help but feel someone is taking the mickey.

Woolies adminstrators have today had the sort of advertising that money simply cannot buy, with wall to wall media coverage across TV, radio and print after announcing a "closing down sale".
Well I've been to Woolies today and as far as I can tell there are no better bargains to be had than when I was in there last weekend for the other sale they had on. In fact there is now less stock so if anything you've got less choice. I saw nothing today cheaper than it was last time I visited, but by heck has all this media coverage got the tills ringing and the aisles packed.

I have to agree Ravey - utter shite - I went to have a gander yesterday and couldn't park within about 1/3 mile of the place when I eventually got their it was 10% off here, 20% off there - 50% off stuff was things that you never would buy anyway - dvd's games etc 10% off - it was 3 for 2 previously (october) which is 30% off anyway
Funny listening to the staff though - who sounded like they can't be arsed anymore and were seriously pissed that the whole world had descended on them yesterday

Well they aint gonna go under if their making record profits now, are they
Wish they'd go under down here, bloody expensive buggers they are, but they dont have same competition here as they do over there, Coles and IGA are their main competitors here.

I was in the upmarket provincial spa town of Harrogate today, and the Woolies there has yet to close, so in we popped. It has to be said that most of what is left is utter shite.
However, they had two big boxes of CD's and DVD's without cases, in just cardboard sleeves. Had a rummage and got 5 albums for just a quid each - bargain!
I got The Best Of Motorhead (double album*), The Fray - How To Save A Life (Bonus track edition), Beyonce - B-Day Deluxe edition with free DVD (for mrs ravey), The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free, and Amy Shitehouse - Frank (mrs ravey again). A nice eclectic selection and well worth a punt at just a fiver for the lot.

Was in the Trafford Centre yesterday and went in the shop "Pier" which is closing down - everything was up for sale incliuding the fixtures and fittings.
I did offer them £5 for the till and contents
