Skiing!Hope Eddie has a brilliant time in Bardonecchia (thats is where he is going isn't it?
Just back from Val D'Isere. Absolutely fabulous (well kind of......)
Arrived in clear blue skies with a spring type of feeling in the air. Within 12 hours we were storm bound! Little open except the lower slopes and one high run accessed by the funicular. Getting out of the funiculare we were pebbled dashed with driving snow in Gale force winds with little to no visibility until we reached trees much lower down..... didn't try that again. Solution......the bar!
Next day.... snow, all day, gentle now as the winds had died down but little pisted as the bashers hadn't been able to work. So little to no visibilty and knee deep powder! Solution....the bar
Next day.....still snowing but there were patches of blue sky drifiting across the sky. Visibilty coming and going. Solution.....the bar......BUT...what is that large orange thing in the sky.....SUN.....uvavoo...iranoo.... SUNSHINE......thigh deep podwer....BLISS....solution....ski...ski...ski....the bar!
Next day. Blue skies, runs pisted to perfection. Solution....fall second turn hurt right thigh. Able to ski but painful at times. Check out thigh at lunchtime. Three massive bumps the size of large backed potatoes on my thigh (by end of day the bruises were coming out, now the whole of my right thigh at the side is a massive black bruise)
Next day. Beautiful. The Espace Killy is before you in all its splendour looking majestic and magnificent. Miles and miles of snow covered pistes and mountain ranges the best the world has to offer. Buoyant, confident, happy! THEN disaster strikes.....I fell.... I had just stopped for a breather on the ladies downhill, turned on one of the bumps caught a tip on a bump and ended up going backwards with skis in a ^ shape down the hill. As I was going too slow the bindings didn't release and POP! PAIN! S**T ....half way down the ladies downhill and I was in agony! After some time I managed to get up and side slip down th slope (with hindsight perhaps I should have got a blood wagon ). I sent Mr NE1 off to enjoy the skiing and I followed RICE (one for PAT). AS things didn't settle as the day went on, I was unable to put any weight through my leg (the right one again) when Mr NE1 came home we went to the medical centre. Result...torn gatrocnemius (CALF) muscle It could have been worse in could have been posterior cruciates ) So no more skiing for me. Compression to leg, rest and elevation and elbow crutches to assist mobility!
Next day. Nice view of Le Face De Bellevarde from my balcony. Rugby on the telly. good book.
Next day. Home. Airport wouldn't let me use crutches so had to be wheel chaired through both Geneva and Scumchester airport. Had to get diabled box transport to plane! All good fun! UNTIL....no skis arrived at Scumchester airport...£800 worth of Rossy bandits gone . Hopefully they will turn up in next few days but I am not holding out much hope.
arrived home...contacted insurance company....told them of injury. No problem madam we will send claim form for health costs reimbursement. Then asked her to send claim for for potential loss of skis. Even she saw funny side .
So all in all an adventurous holiday was had by all and to top it off Leeds drew and won two games and man u got thrashed at home

Sounds horrendous, you do all that for FUN?? My last holiday to Egypt was nearly as bad.
Day 1. Too hot, so in the pool, seas and bar
Day 2. Far too hot, swam to cool down, hit the bar for plenty of liquids.
Day 3. Went diving to 40 Metres, still warm at the drop off, got nearly to close to a trigger fish, but stayed clear. Got back to dry land, hit the bar.
Day 4. Went in to the sinai dessert to have tea and drinkies with the beduoins, too hot, so drank plenty of liquid.
Day 5. Lost my book, bleeding disaster, what am I going to do now. Bar!!
Day 6. Still to hot, so in pool, sea and....... yup, bar
Day 7. Came home
Worst holiday of my life. Plenty of warm if not hot weather, plenty of liquid, most of which was alcolhol based. Plenty of nubile femal flesh on show. Plenty of total chilling out.
Still, I know which disaster i'll be opting for in future!!

I told you that skiing lark was danagerous!
If you're still incapacitated, check out High Altitude on the BBC iPlayer. That should be right up your street.

Yeah watched it....that kite skiing looks good. Saw people filming for BBC about 2 years ago, they don't half shift! Would be to scared to do it but it looks fantastic.
Still incapacitated. taking it slowly as its an injury that can reocurr apparently. Off to sports injury clinic on Thursday to see physio.

Last time I went skiing (exactly a year ago *sigh*) saw someone doing this:
Wish I could be there now:
Lunching half way up a mountain, in negative temperatures but still feeling warm enough to take off your jacket:

Had great moment like that once, was coming down from one of the peaks when the wind really got up and visibility went down to zero, was on a run that was barely wider than my skis. The guy in front of me stopped so I had to put the brakes on pretty sharpish, suddenly heard a great clatter behind me.... turned to watch the finish of a pile up as an entire ski school clattered into each other.

Got back on Sunday after 6 days of glorious sunshine - got me a tan too
The conditions were perfect, skiied really well and met a fellow Leeds fan at 3000metres (had my scarf on) and we followed the Crewe result via texts from Eddie jnr who was there with Stockport Whites.
One major problem - beer was 5 euros a pint and tasted like pee!!. Also, cant stand the thought of pizza or pasta at the moment but my Italian has improved.
Next year we're planning on going to Canada but the Winter Limpix might make it a bit too pricey

...the way they prepare the pistes for the competition is horrendous. That was my problem, they had prepared the pistes (2 of them) for the world championships. It had blue ice on it, and that was three weeks after the competition with a further 3 foot of snow having fallen! I tried to avoid the blue ice and came a cropper.
Been to lake louise and whilst it was good, I prefer European skiing. I know I am in massive minority but skiing in the Banff ski area was just too clinical.

My elbow crutches and I are finally parted! I was getting sick of the sight of them, but they have gone.
Leg doing well. I now feel very sorry for injured football players, sports physio is absolutely excrutiatingly painful, in my experience only one down from childbirth but not as long
