Sharia LawThe C of E has to act right now if it is to retain any credible respect for its philosophies and opinions on modern day British life. Some of the comments and proposals for "debate" made by Williams are nothing short of extreme left wing madness and heresy.
I am not denominationalist, but an unfortunate result of this idiots comments is that many people may brand all Christians as the same as the so called head of the C of E.
A most unfortunate fall out from this is going to be the added fuel to the fire of the right wing racists. How many muslims are waking up this morning to this story with the increased worry of vented public opinion? Why Sharia law? Why not Hindu law? Why not Sikh law? Just what is this man trying to achieve, an orchestrated melt down of British society, of centuries of British law? If he was an MP there would be demands for him to go.....He should go IMO.
We have touched on multi cultural Britain on here in the past. And I suspect that we all appreciate more of the good things it enriches society with, than the bad things brought about by extreme elements. Surely people come to this country to enjoy our relative freedom and protection of the law regardless of race, religion or sex......So now the head of the C of E has chucked the towel in on British society and is willing to hand initiative over to a few non conformist extreme elements so that they can operate in their own two tiered version of 21st century Britain. I'll keep my reply brief (for once)
If I went to live in another country I would EXPECT to comply with their laws
It should be NO DIFFERENT when that role is reversed
If you don't like the laws here then don't fucking come here in the first place. If I don't like the laws where I am looking to move then don't fucking go there
Doesn't seem too hard to me

I agree with what^^^^^^^said. Just been out in the car and had the radio on which was a phone in about the ArchBishops comments, a few muslims rang in and they don't want it either.

That would be the Jeremy Vine show, heard it today and swore a bit at the radio. As Boxy says, OUR country, OUR laws, take notice and live by them or fuck off. Simple really.

One law, the same for everyone - the basic premise of English law, copied the world over. How can you enforce laws when folk can opt in or out when it suits?
FFS, if I went to any other country in the world I'd be expected to abide their laws, end of.
And this muppet is in charge of the Church of England? No wonder the pews are empty of a Sunday.

We have the same dilemna here - with "tribal" law for the aboriginals. Some the the values they have as a tribe are quite different to what we as Anglo-australians expect
Big cause for debate
PS - having lived under Shaira law before, their isnt too much wrong with it (as a male) but there is no strict interepretation of sharia law as it varies between Sunni's and Shiites and also differing countries - Which version would be accepted in the UK
So - its just Bollox and when in Rome arguement is valid

He is the epitome of the wet, liberal, hand-wringers that seem to be so concerned about the minorities in this country when these same minorities are not even raising the issues. The majority of Muslims do NOT want to see this evil law being introduced in Britain.
I agree - he must resign NOW
