Oldham Athletic will take a late decision on the fitness of Chris Taylor ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie against Leeds United at Boundary Park, writes PHIL HAY.
The creative winger – heavily linked with a transfer to Leeds during the close season – was left out of Oldham's 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town on Sunday and has been given a 50-50 chance of recovering in time for this weekend's first-round clash.
Oldham manager Dave Penney has a number of selection concerns and is hoping that Taylor will recover from a hamstring injury in time to line-up against Leeds.
The 22-year-old has been a mainstay in Oldham's team for the past three seasons and is one of Penney's more talented assets.
Club physio Marc Czuczman said: "We're going to aim for this weekend.
"It's a question of seeing how he responds to treatment as we don't want a situation where he plays and spends the rest of the week with me. That won't do him or the team any favours."
Taylor was rumoured to be seriously interesting Leeds before the transfer window closed in August, but the Elland Road club are understood to have been put off by Oldham's valuation of around £600,000. Along with Taylor, Kelvin Lomax and Alex Marrow are also doubtful for Saturday's game.
Leeds, meanwhile, have confirmed that defender Alan Sheehan in available to play for United in the first-round tie.
Sheehan returned to Elland Road on Monday at the end of his second month of his loan at Oldham, and although the clubs are discussing the possibility of him returning to Boundary Park for a third and final month, he is eligible to feature for Leeds on Saturday if manager Simon Grayson opts to select him.
United have around 500 tickets remaining for Saturday's match and will continue selling them over the counter at Elland Road's ticket office until 4pm on Friday having set 5pm yesterday as the deadline for applications via post, fax and the internet.
