No BBC Leeds radio commentary as of next seasonAs of next season only Yorkshire Radio will broadcast full match commentary of Leeds' matches.
No doubt we'll soon be hearing about how its the best deal outside the Premiership.

I wouldn't rush out to buy a DAB Radio - looks like they are about to go the way of Betamax and four star petrol.
Most of the DAB broadcaster (other than the licence fee funded BBC) have cottoned on that in order to transmit on DAB you have to spend a fortune on a licence to broadcast to a tiny audience with specialist equipment, while you can launch an internet radio station with no expensive licence, much less regulatory interference and to anyone with a computer, anywhere in the world for next to nothing.
If this is Kens idea of making us all subscribers to Loo-TV he can go f*** himself backwards. I'll watch on Ceefax unless he's planning on banning that.
As an aside I thought the BBC had a deal tying up all the league matches for commentary - when did that change?

Shame becasue I will miss the commentary, and I will miss the pre match and post match interviews and phone ins. I wont be subscribing to LUTV.

I was going to buy a DAB radio for the car (as listening to talksport on medium wave is like listening to a barrel full of screaming harpies) - the guy at the specialist shop said exactly what ravey says above - ALL the major in-car manufacturers dropped their DAB "offering" 12 months ago as the reception is still shite at best (when taken into a nationwide coverage level)

I know I cautioned against buying a DAB Radio, but tesco.com are offering a basic budget brand one for under £15.
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.202-1501.aspx
At that price it could well be worth it just to stick two fingers up to Bates as it's less than half the price of a LUTV subscription...

DAB I believe is a digital radio and digital broadcasts can only be picked up by a digital receiver be it radio or television.

Exactly DAB transmits on a different frequency to a "traditional" radio which uses FM or AM frequencies, so effectively it's just a different type of radio. Nearly all DAB radios also have an FM tuner so you can listen to that as well.
You need to check signal coverage in the area you want to use it as well.

.....but why would you here commentary on DAB radio and not on normal radio? Is the commentary only going to be digital and is Bates not going to be able to block transmission

In essence, yes. Yorkshire Radio (aka Radio Bates) transmits on DAB and via Sky Digital (channel 0209, I think), but I'm told that on Sky they get a different programme during match commentary. Yorkshire Radio does not transmit on FM, so most people will need to buy a DAB radio to listen in (if they live within range of the transmitter) or subscribe to LUTV which currently costs £30 and I'm sure will cost more next season.
If you live outside the DAB transmitter range of Yorkshire Radio your only option is to subscribe to LUTV (and hope they upgrade their equipment to cope with an increase in subscribers), which is really the only option to anyone outside Yorkshire at the moment anyway.

Radio Leeds Leeds United Commentary is an institution and as much a part of been a Leeds Fan as the Scarbro. Taps. Bates is an utter ****. If he thinks i and people like me are going to listen to the away games on his mouthpiece station he is sadly deluded. Boycott all sponsors of his commentary. Anyone know who they are.
