Isn't the full title 'Tonight: Archduke Franz Ferdinand will be shot in the Balkans sparking a World War'

Not sure about White Lies Ben.....Sounds to me like Duran Duran with a bass riff...... Cool

They're very Editors/Interpol, so heavily influenced by Joy Division

Had lunch with my eldest today. She said "really good up and coming band playing at the forum this week"

"oh who?" said I

"White Lies" said she.......Nearly fell off her chair when I did the old news routine....LOL

"Let's Dance To Joy Division" was, I believe, a hit for the popular band "The Wombats". Presumably this means that The Wombats had been influenced, at least in part, by Joy Division. Please advise me if this is incorrect?

Not really gettimg into any new music right now. Since the super duper new xmas ipod ive been loading all my old stuff on it and ive been playing the blues all the time. John Lee Hooker, BB King stuff.

Friendly Fires are ace though and what ive heard of the Gaslight Anthem sounds good too. White Lies are the current darlings aint they but like Garp i aint too sure. We seem to get these doomy bands like Interpol, Editors periodically coming at us. Not that i dont like them cos i do, im just a bit suspiciouse of over hyping

Check out Seasick Steve on BBC4 this Friday (I think) if you like those then Halfa - he was on Something For The Weekend last Sunday and could be right up tha snickett.

Aha - if The Wombats are fans of Joy Division then they will have undoubtedly listened to their music.
It is then fair to assume that The Wombats will therefore have been influenced by said music, even if only subconciously.
No further questions m'lud.

Yeah i like him, trouble is that hes another in a line of USA acts that burst onto the scene with a story. Y'know like the White Stripes, Kings of Leon, Bon Iver etc. It's as if the music isnt enough anymore. He is good though like the others mentioned but its a toil getting past the hype

Ladyhawke.

Just downloaded it off that fancy new iTunes and I have to say it's my album of the year so far (even if it did come out last year...).
It's like the 80's never went away, but in a good way. Razz

Downloaded albums from Little Boots and La Roux in the last week or so.

Both crackers, especially if you're a fan of the back to the 80's mania that is filling the airwaves at the moment.

They do leave me with two thoughts:

I'd be prepared to wager a shiny £1 coin that Little Boots has got a lot of Kylie tracks on her iPod... Wink

Oh and the lass from La Roux? Her mum is June Ackland from The Bill!  Shocked

Someone pointed out Elbow to me

Been around for a while it seems but one of their songs is dead-set brilliant

The best electronic 80's throwback(ish) album at the moment is Simian Mobile Disco's Temporary Pleasure. It's a brilliant album and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Also the new Kasabian album is great.
