Music on the move

I'm sick to death of having to carry loads of CD's in the car if we go on a trip and don't want to gamble on whats on the radio. The trouble is that while a CD can hold 75 minutes of music, lots don't even have an hours worth on, meaning even a simple drive up into the Dales for a cream tea can need three, four or more CD's.
Plus, then the CD's are in the car and I can't be arsed to go get them if I want to listen to music when I get home.

Honestly, it's a dilemma.  Very Happy

So, I reckon I might suggest that mrs ravey gets me an MP3 player for Crimbo. I reckon a nice iPod should do the trick, with a little transmitter gadget so I can listen to it in the car. One of those nice 160GB ones should store my entire music collection with room to spare.

Thing is, is an iPod a good choice, or just a default choice? I want something easy to use (I already have a limited version iTunes on my  mobile, which I like) and that isn't going to take a degree in computers to download music onto.

Any advice?

PS - replacing the stereo in the car with an MP3 CD player is a no-go.

Always go for the iPod, they're brilliant, I now have the touch which probably isn't the size you want, but its amazing, the interface is better than any other mp3 player and I've never had a problem with either this one of the old 3rd Generation one I had for 4 years before it.

Resisted the lure of the evil ITunes for long enough and finally succumbed to it about two months back. I really do not trust the software and the whole ethos of them scanning your library but it really is brilliant and equipment. My mate has the car attachment thingymejig and it is the dogs danglies and I would recommend it.

I got a tiny 1mb ipod shuffle as well which is geat for the gym or short holidays/train trips.

I love iTunes, so much better than any other music software

Will I-tunes work on any MP3 player or do you need the I-pod as well

If so, how do you do it?
NE1

make sure you get the gadget that charges your ipod as well as transmits.

I got the wrong one for Mr NE1 Rolling Eyes (but then me and technology were never in the same universe Rolling Eyes )

Thanks I'll try and remember that. Doesn't his German staff car have an MP3 socket / connector?  Very Happy

Hope you get a better transmitor than I got because mine is shite - even the lower FM frequencies had "other" stations on them so the intereference was crap - I had one in the past that was good but this last one is toss (and not cheap either)

As for 30 Mill's question - my guess  Rolling Eyes (because I have no idea) is that itunes would only work on ipod but what do I know as I have neither (i'm mp3 and limewire  Cool )
