Leicester (H) 26/12/2008

First half: 45 minutes of appallingly poor quality football, broken up by Leicester cutting a swathe through the defence who appeared not to notice. Leeds were frankly rubbish.

Second half:
46 minutes: Leeds started brightly but created little

47 minutes to 89 minutes - more dire quality with Leeds being second best in most areas, but Leicester also strangley reluctant in the last third of the pitch.

90 minutes: Sheer joy as an unlikely draw was snatched from the jaws of defeat.

Several things spring to mind.
Firstly, young Mr Grayson has his work cut out.
The defence looked disjointed, uncommunicative and played some appalling balls. I'm no professional footballer, but even I know that when the other team are attacking your goal, and you find the ball at your feet on the edge of the box the absolute last place on that pitch that you put the ball is back into your penalty area. But we did.  Mad
Casper repeatedly held onto the ball when a quick clearance was called for (especially to his left), allowing Leicester to get back in numbers ready to await one of his woeful kicks. His distribution was poor, at best.
Beckfords touch yesterday was also poor with the ball frequently ricocheting off him in a Kandol-esque fashion.
Possession was lost far too easily and at times there seemed to be more concern over arm waving at the ref than getting the ball back.
The ref 'premiership' Mark Halsey wasn't brilliant and got a well deserved round of applause when a decision finally went our way.

All that said though, it was an afternoon where the draw was nearly as sweetly received as a victory mainly due to the way it arrived.

Another plus point: If Leicester are the standard bearers of this league, then we have little to fear if Grayson can steady the ship. Although they dominated possesion they were also at times as dire as we were. They lacked creativity, but had a workmanlike attitude and played as a team. They chased down balls and won 50/50 tackles. Thats what we need to get promoted.

The fans, as always were brilliant and deserved better. It made a real treat to hear the Leicester fans ressurect the old "Ooooooooohhhhhhhhh, you're sh*t, arrrrgggghhhhh!" carry on at the goalkeeper, before the Kop weighed in with their own version at the other end.
Given the Upper East Stand was open it was surprising that the attendance was 'only' 33580..?

PS - hopefully halfa will now post a more succint version of events  Wink
