Keane - Perfect Symmetry

Is a fantastic album, Q have it in their 'top albums from the last few months' bit in the magazine atm and it's well worth it. From the first track 'Spiralling' it's great to listen to and that first track won 'Track of the year' at the Q awards.

Having moved on from the turmoil that produced 'Under the Iron Sea' two and a half years ago they have a more rounded sound. With the new inclusion of guitar music into the sound they have found the final peice to a jigsaw that didn't need much tweaking.

Songs like 'Better Than This', 'Haven't Told Me Anything' and and the latest single (which is more of a hark back to 2004's début 'Hopes and Fears') the songs are much more upbeat in the sound but still use Tom Church's voice to great effect to bring through the well thought out lyrics. Of course Tim Rice-Oxley's Keyboards still hold sway over most of the record but even so they are not as major a part the piece as they were back when the band first came to prominence.

The band has grown and taken it's experiences into account for this album, but not let the bad times override the sound as they did with 'Under the Iron Sea' after the well publicised drug and alcohol problems Tom Church suffered.

It's a great album that should be given a listen to, and even though it sounds good on the first listen it is still able to grow on you as you listen to it more.

4/5
