Just dessertsThe usual response of the government when travellers illegally set up camp is to ignore the issue and to gloss over the fact that it is the very Human Rights Act brought in my New Labour that adds to the problem.
So I'm sure I wasn't the only one who felt this is a delicious slice of irony:

Of course if you or I were complaining about honest travelling folk obtaining land by subterfuge (albeit within the law) and then illegally setting up camp without planning permission to a timetable deliberately designed to ensure the council could not respond, (not to mention them connecting up mains water and power, presumably also without permission) we would be labelled "NIMBYs" by the very New Labour types affected here.
