How was the midfield? Howson instead of DouglassI have a possiby irrational loathing of Douglass as I think he is genuinely PISH, so Im interested in how the midfield performed without him today and in particular how Howson went (as I assume he replaced him in that position)

Norman was waxing lyrical about him (Howson) on the radio. In fact Baldy noted that Norm was perhaps a little too enchanted (if that is the right word) with the young fellow

Howson had an outstanding game today, bossed the midfield and was everywhere. My MOTM today

OK.. I really like Douggie, he was nominated for player of the month last month and has done well this season, i never see why people get on his back

Fair enough he just doesn't seem to inspire as a captain let alone as a player - I can only go off what I see when our games get covered or listening to the radio but whenever have seen him he has done nothing at all let alone do anything spectacular

His distribution is better than half of the rest of our players and his defensive work is good, and he never stops running all match

I think Douglas will always give his all in effort, but IMHO he is extremely limited and probably playing at his natural level in League One this season. I have absolutely no idea why he ss being selected for Ireland as they must have at least a dozen central midfielders of superior quality to him.
If we get promoted, I think Douglas would be one of the players we'd need to replace in order to progress further. I realise he's got quite a lot of fans amongst the supporters but I've never been very impressed, even when he was a youngster at Blackburn.

Douglas is one of those economical midfielders. He doesn’t appear to do a lot but is always there or thereabouts when hes needed. His lack of pace will always restrict him but hes an honest player who doesn’t hide or shirk unlike say Bowyer who has everything Douglas hasn’t but consistently disappoints. Why not play both Dougy AND Howson but then you risk opening up the old "can they play together" debate that’s sweeping the nation .
