Woodgate and Bowyer (both England standard at the time) are not picked for the duration of the trial. Now I know Woodgate wasn't well mentally, but Bowyer played some blinding football at the time (anybody remember 'chopper for Bowyer' thread on old Sq ball after the club hired a helicopter to get him to the Everton game?!). Surely we have to praise the Scottish FA for standing up and being counted,and making an example of people, who should but unfortunately know no better. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/7981287.stm These players were national captain and up and coming goalie. That is a big stance to make. The english FA didn't pick Woodgate and Bowyer, but denied it was because of the trial and continue to pick 'Stevie G'  , when perhaps they should stand up and be counted.

It would still have been wrong. "Innocent until proven guilty" and all that - and the different treatment the next time it happened would still have been just as hypocritical.

Simple it would still be wrong and lamentable, but no one on here would have noticed due to it not being important to us. It would have been debated by whoever they had played for. |
