December a crucial month

Every year December becomes a crucial month and more so than ever this year especially when we enter it on the back of 2 (league) wins & 2 (league) losses (which doesn't look particularly clever)

Home

Port Vale
Huddersfield
Bristol Rovers

Away

Walsall
Hartlepool
Swansea

Last 2 games of december both away at tough grounds - I hope it doesn't spoil my christmas Evil or Very Mad

What points total would warrant a job well done? (13 from 18 for me)

What points total will really set the alarms bells going? (anything less than 9)

I think 13 from 18 is probably good enough, a record for 4-1-1 every six games will get us promoted.

Anything less than 9 is very bad and just looking in the very short term I think wins against Port Vale and Huddersfield are essential.

13 and 10

Yep the 9 and 13 sounds right. Might forsake a couple of points if we trounce Huddersfield 6-0 though. Would make things a lot more jolly round here.

Last December was a disaster and a deffo the time i thought we were in big trouble. We needed about 10 gettable points out of about 18 and we got 2 i think.

I think it's fair to say we've had a shocking festive period.. Sad

We'll not get relegated but again need to turn things around to stay in the promotion hunt.

Now I admit I'm getting worried. We've had some glaring weaknesses all season and got away with it, but instead of fixing them we seem to be losing out on what were our strengths as well. In short, it looks like we've been found out.

I don't know if this has much to do with Poyet's departure, but we've lost that cohesion that allowed us to battle our way to wins and withstand the opposition even when we were second best for most of the game. Now, we're a bit like old cheese - apply a little pressure and watch it crumble.

Failure to get promoted would be nearly as bad as relegation. It would lead to another round of losing our best players and watching any supposedly promising youngsters look elsewhere. Hartlepool and Brentford were both relegated after making the play-oofs in this league in recent years too, just as we were last year. I really think we have to believe it's automatic promotion or bust and play accordingly. The hunger and unity we saw earlier in the season seems to have gone.

Bill, I agree we simply have to get promoted this season.

Our biggest problem appears to be that we are leaking goals. Early on in the season we were very solid defensively so even with a good share of possession our opponents couldn't score, now the goals are coming in thick and fast.

We were absolutely dire all over the park in every position. Usually we have relied on the defence keeping strong under pressure or the front two rescuing us. Not today. The front two couldn’t trap the proverbial bag of cement and their first touches were shocking. Seb was offering us nothing and I fear has blown his final chance . Frazer had a real mare, Caspers kicking appalling. Heath an off day even by his mediocre standards. We were cut apart down the wings by their excellent wide play. Prutton couldn’t do a thing right and Tresors twin brother from last year decided it was his turn to play today.

The goal after half time should have spurred and inspired us bit instead we seem to have four strikers just waiting across the line for a punt forward. We couldn’t get the ball out wide to the waiting beckord and when we did he wasted the possession to easily. Kish is a shadow of the player he previously was and there is no way we should keep him. The odd chance we had to cause them problems were wasted as well with some ridiculous crosses and set pieces.

A bad  bad day at the office and this is where Mr Wise should show us what he can do in the transfer  window. He MUST know what we need in terms of fresh faces, every bugger else does. A left back, energy in midfield, Center Half cover and a wide player who can take defenders on and cross the ball. Not despondency time yet but recent performances have not been good enough for a top 6 spot. Shouldn’t go down though Wink .

This is the first time during Wise's time at Leeds that he can go out and spend a bit of money to strengthen the team and fix the problems. Last season he was in the position where the only signings were freebies or loans and then the FL shafted us all summer so he couldn't get the players in that he wanted.
Given those facts Wise has done amazing with the players he has but now is a crucial time for him to show that he really is a top class manager.

Hope you're right. So far he has delivered nothing except relegation. This season aint over so nothing is delivered yet.

Another way to look at it is that up to now Wise has had a bagful of handy excuses if things didn't work out. Last year it wasn't his team, the summer madness was down to Bates' doing his convincing impression of a fraudster and so preparation for this season was again not entirely under Wise's control. Now, however, he must deliver. We're in the perfect position to push on and get automatic promotion regardless of whether Wise has a chequebook or a begging bowl with which to fund it. He will have known the situation and had plenty of time to prepare for it.

TBH what has bothered me all season is our complete inability to dominate the midfield and control the game from there. You can argue about disruption but when you get to halfway and the problem is as bad as ever you have to wonder if the management even knows how to do something about it. We rely too much on the defense holding out under pressure and then lumping the ball forward as soon as we can, instead of taking the pressure off the defenders by controlling the midfield and making the other team worry about getting the ball off us instead of letting them throw everything they have at our defense.

And thats the bit that really has me worried - half the season gone and no real improvement - granted results have been great (especially when levelled against the performances on the pitch) but you would expect the improvements / gelling to be completely evident by now and instead we appear to be getting worse  Shocked
