What does everyone think of the festive telly programmes?

With the exception of the excellent Doctor Who, I think we've been sold a pup. Dragons Den was fair, but was ultimately little more than a "best of" show with some behind the scenes clips of the Dragons dicking around between pitches.

Top of the Pops - formerly the first "must see" show of Crimbo day, it's easy to see why this has been cancelled during the rest of the year. Featured a performance by Katie Melua, who has hardly been bothering the chart compliers this year and was that Girls Aloud plugging their new single? Though so. Not helped by the fact the X Factor has hijacked the Xmas number One again and no-one bothers with the singles chart now.

To The Manor Born, sold as the big show on BBC1 on Christmas Day, was bobbins. A half hearted attempt to cash in on a show that was popular a quarter of a century ago, with a poor script and a "plot" that I'd seen through in the first 5 minutes. All the charm and humour of the original had gone. I hope to goodness that they don't think they can get a series out of such dire material.

The Catherine Tate Show - lots of swearing, famous faces popping up on screen (a sure sign a show is on the slide) and nothing new. My funny bone wasn't bovvered by this dirge.

For anyone not getting the full festive spirit there have been the soaps, all of which have had storylines designed to depress and sadden the nation. Not that you need to watch them as the storylines have already been revealed ad infinitum in every paper and telly guide since Bonfire Night.

Then lots of kids films that anyone with a $ky subscription or a DVD player will have already seen and/or own a copy.

The selection tonight (Boxing Day) is appalling. This is meant to be the highlight of the televisual year!

Watched usual bollocks, Finding nemo, Shrek 2 Love actually, Mrs fave film so HAD to watch that one. Not been to bovvered about rest of it to be honest. Same old shit in the soaps, Personally glad about the alcohol that was consumed, Cool

catherine tate was just about the best of a bad bunch so far, the highlight has to be wifey not talking to me and oh yes the world darts championships on sky by far and away the best programme so far. well presented, drama packed entertainment.
then again i am biased, i absolutely adore the modern day darts presentation.
by far and away the best programme on tv at the moment.

Christmas TV has changed beyond recognition since the days of Christmas Day TOTP, Morecambe and Wise and the Bond Film. Two descriptions that still chase me away to the pub though are.
1) Romantic Comedy.
2) Animated Adventure.

Both seem to be littered throughout the TV Guides.

I swear that when the inevitable day comes that the BBC is axed or at least changed beyond recognition that will be it for me. TV is just one big carefully orchestrated advertising machine these days interspersed with butchered films, classic repeats , idiot monologues and plain dross. The sport coverage is great though and there are the very odd gems but the amount of crud you have to wade through (and pay for) is making it not worth the effort. The stuff that is good seems to go on and on with a zillion episodes that would take your life over if you let it. I had 15 years without a Telly through the eighties and nineties. The Radio, albums and a Tropical fish tank now seem like the good old days. (Reminisce smiley)

Best thing that’s been on over Christmas are the Red Dwarf Repeats. Thought the Dr Who was a bit disappointing really ravey. Too contrived and way too much of a Kylie Publicity vehicle. Lead Balloon is great and Extras is on tonight which will hopefully be worth the wait.

Very True ravey, telly has always been mainly shite its just a bigger choice of mainly shite now with more adverts. at least the addies are somertimes funny now, so some improvement there. Hang on a minute what about the smash robots from the 70's.

Watched Extras last night and it was certainly the best programme on telly at 9pm yesterday Cool

Actually it was probably the best show so far this Xmas, and provided a cutting satire on todays fame obsessed society.
Loved his speech listing all that was wrong with the fame culture in the Celebrity Big Brother house and then when he got up to leave the glamour model WAG said she was coming with him - then turned and said "Hang on, there'll be paparrazi out there - I'll put a bikini on".

Class comedy from the little fat bloke and worth forgiving him his Live8 performance for.

Thought Dr Who was ok at best. In retrospect the trailors showed the best bits of Kylie, and excluding those, I would say worst lead ever on the new Doc series'. Not her fault, poor script etc.

.....Watched Extras....I enjoyed it.....Pretty dark.....I like dark....Oh, and some funny bits too....Like funny bits
