I have nothing against foreigners who come over here to work, I have worked with many of them and they have a better work ethic than any British person I've worked with, this was backed up by an interview that Working Lunch did. They were outside a job centre and spoke to people coming out about it. One guy had a rant about how the foreigners were stealing his jobs, he was then informed of the fact that he could earn 20k in three months picking fruit, which many foreigners do, and that there were many jobs doing that available. His reply? I'm not doing that! That's demeaning.
I know it' a different matter but it just shocked me that someone could have that attitude after blaming his inability to get a job on foreigners. |

I haven't seen that particular report, but it sounds like it has the politically slanted angle that has infected almost all the BBC's news and current affairs output. I also have grave doubts that fruit pickers are paid anything like £20k for three months manual work, no matter how back breaking it may be. To be honest if that sort of money is on offer for three months work I'd take it and I could have the rest of the year off, and I'll bet I wouldn't be the only one. I'm sure there are lazy bastards who would rather sit on their arses all day cashing their giro and treating the Alan Titchmarsh Show as breakfast TV, but that isn't what we're talking about here. The point is not that British workers didn't want these jobs, it's that they were never given the opportunity to even apply for them. The whole contract was shipped out lock, stock and barrel to a foreign firm who brought in their own staff. Remember that these are mainly skilled jobs too. It's about another great lie, sold to us by the "one eyed Scottish idiot" and his chums. |

I know it's not the same (as I said  ), it just shocked me.
Btw yes where I live they do pay that much to pick fruit (you work from about 8 till 6 generally) because loads of the foreigners I worked with last Christmas did it over the summer. |

The fact is that the foreign workers are all members of the EU, and as such are allowed to work here under that rule. However, what really gets up my nose is that Total BROUGHT them in cos of cost!!! The prime idiot then said that the strikes were undefensible!!!!!! This is from the leader of, what is supposed to be, the people's party!!!
The quicker this pseudo tory government is gone the better imho!! |
