Couldn't find anything on net about it, Derby are after some other striker (can't remeber his name) so probably not true.

He'd go if the offer was made, and I'm sure Bates would accept it, but I think it's just a rumour. The weak sides in the Premiership will be looking for more established players if they're going to splash out in the transfer window, not gambling £3M on someone who needed time to adjust last time he made a big move up in standard.
If bids come in for Beckford, I expect them to be from Championship sides, and I also expect they'd be significantly lower than that figure. One such rumour had Hull preparing what was something like a £750k bid, which I'd be very angry to see Bates accept.
Also, it seems unlikely Derby will spend big this January. They're practically down already, and their board will be cutting their cloth accordingly.
