Travelodge have loads of rooms from £19 a night.

We stayed in the Travelodge at Berwick-Upon-Tweed last night for the princely sum of £0.00 - a friend had booked a £19 room and couldn't go due to family commitments (you can't cancel the £19 rooms - well you can but there are no refunds) so he gave the booking to us.  Very Happy

We've had a cracking day exploring the Northumbria coast - Beadnell Bay is a truly lovely sweeping sandy bay (officially designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) which apart from a quid in the car park cost nowt as we walked for a couple of miles with the dog. Although it's January the sun has been shining and we had clear blue skies above us while we walked on the beach. http://www.northumberland-coast.co.uk/beadnell.php
We did initially plan on going to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, but sadly the tide times didn't fit in with our plans.
We drove along the Northumberland Coast Road which passes the spectacular castles at Bamburgh and Alnwick as well as passing through some scenic countryside.

A great credit crunch break!

In all a great weekend away, for very little outlay and in a lovely part of the world just a few hours drive away. It's almost as good as Yorkshire  Cool .
Forget about jetting off overseas this summer, explore this fantastic country of ours.

To avoid any embarrasment, you can always hide The Sun inside a copy of Razzle as you queue at the till
