In order to avoid clubs going into admin when already relegated in order to get the points deduction when it effectively means nothing Rolling Eyes , the League now have rules in place.

If you're already relegated, the points are applied from the start of the following season.
If you're above the dropzone, but the points deduction would place you into it, the deduction is applied then, relegating you there and then.

However if, like Stockport, you are safe from relegation and won't bother the playoffs either way, the points are deducted immediately.

them is the rules.

As you know I don't agree with points deduction anyway, and it just shows the whole system to be farce Mad

I don't have anything against the points deduction - after all it's not unheard of for clubs to use administration as a means to get out of debts they don't want to pay - but I think the current rules are simply corrupt. They were supposed to stop teams going into admin just before the season ends in the knowledge that the penalty is meaningless, yet that is exactly what's happened again. Before the last game, Stockport wouldn't have been safe - as soon as they were they entered admin.

A proper rule would have made it a lot less unfair: before 1st of March, penalty in the same season because a 10 point loss at that point will always make a difference; after 1st of March, penalty to be applied the following season regardless of where the team finishes the current season. This way there is no way to avoid the penalty having a significant effect on the season it is applied in.

I see absolutely no difference between what Stockport have done this season and what Bates did with Leeds two years ago.

Turner condemns Stockport ruling

Turner feels lower league clubs need a financial reality check
Hereford chairman Graham Turner has condemned the ruling that has allowed Stockport County to stay in League One, despite going into administration.

The Hatters were deducted 10 points by the Football League but are safe from the threat of relegation.

"Clearly the people who run the club couldn't afford to sustain the expenditure," Turner told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"Clubs that go into administration should be automatically relegated."

The Bulls chairman, who recently stood down as manager at Edgar Street in favour of head coach John Trewick, feels the 10-point deduction is not a strong enough deterrent.

Somewhere along the line we have got to be realistic about what we can afford to spend

Graham Turner
While Hereford finished bottom of League One, their annual accounts were in the black for a fifth successive year and Turner feels they have effectively been punished for running a tight ship.

"Clubs like ours that run within their means are disadvantaged as the reason we have gone down is that we didn't spend money we hadn't got on better quality players," he said.

"I see other clubs that do spend money on players they can't afford and ultimately it catches up with them.

"Yet they can almost wipe off the debts and start again in the same division and that bugs me a little bit.

Turner pointed out that he has no problem with the Stockport manager Jim Gannon, who he believes has done a magnificent job in the transfer market.

But he added: "They will take the First Division central funding for next season which gives them a decent amount of money.

"I know there is a quest for success and the pressure to bring in that extra player and pay that extra transfer fee, but somewhere along the line we have got to be realistic about what we can afford to spend.

"We had ours [financial problems] 14 years ago and you learn from that lesson that you have to live within your means."

There has to be another way, don't know what it is, but there has to be. How can relegating a team with financial worries improve there financial worries?
