4-0 x2

Bradley Johnson's seventh goal of the season inspired League One title favourites Leeds United to their second successive 4-0 win.
The midfielder struck unintentionally with a deflected cross three minutes before half-time to set Leeds up for a big victory and keep the club firmly on course for automatic promotion from League One.

Substitute Max Gradel added a second goal on 69 minutes to end any chance of a Yeovil fightback, and Jermaine Beckford and Tresor Kandol rounded off the win.

Yeovil were the better side in the first half, and Casper Ankergren pulled off a terrific save to deny Jon Obika early on.

Craig Alcock should also have scored with a free header which sailed wide.

United struggled to create chances in return but they broke the deadlock against the run of play when Johnson's cross hit Shaun MacDonald and flew into the net as Beckford and goalkeeper Alex McCarthy competed for the ball.

Sam Vokes almost added a second at the start of the second half with a dinked effort and Beckford and Jonathan Howson could also have increased United's advantage as the hosts closed out their win with more confidence.

Gradel eventually sealed the points by turning his marker and guiding a low shot into the net, 10 minutes after coming off the bench, and Beckford made no mistake when he broke through and guided a shot around McCarthy on 79 minutes.

Kandol completed the rout by heading home Robert Snodgrass' cross moments later.

The result followed on from Leeds' 4-0 win at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night.

So thats two 4-0 wins on the bounce and you really cannot argue with results like that. By all accounts were were poor for much of the first half, but SG made some changes and we got a very decent result - that fills me with confidence, having previously seen our managers (from David O'Deary on) persisting for 90 minutes with a system that simply wasn't working.

Good work lads.

Possibly for the first time in years - and whisper this quietly - I'm starting to believe this season we will do it. In the past the Millwall defeat would have been the start of a dodgy patch of mediocre form heading into the Christmas period, but the response this time has been two of the more comprehensive wins in the division this season.

The squad is finally strong enough all round and with enough depth to keep going.

As Steve Claridge said "the title is Leeds' to lose"... but then he also described us as "moneybags Leeds" so...

We have come through a period where some key players have been injured, and have still put decent points on the board. How much longer we can get away with the full back issues remains to be seen. But with Higgs to come back, and decent competition across the rest of the squad....I am positive.
