Coventry City transfer latest

Chris Coleman's search for a striker has reportedly taken him to Leeds, where Jermaine Beckford's future is up for debate again following his side's play-off failure.
Another League One hotshot, Gary Hooper of Scunthorpe United has already been linked with a move to the Ricoh Arena while former Sky Blues star Gary McSheffrey may be a cut-price alternative to Andrew Driver of Hearts as Coleman looks for a left-sided midfielder.
Aron Gunnarsson continues to be linked with a move away despite pledging his future to the club. Celtic remain keen on the Icelandic powerhouse.
Leeds to offer Beckford new deal
Leeds United are set to offer 25-year-old striker Jermaine Beckford a new contract to stay at Elland Road.
Last season's top scorer has 12 months left on his current deal and his agent had hinted he was prepared to move on if a new deal was not forthcoming.
Leeds chief executive Shaun Harvey told BBC Radio Leeds: "I've actually spoken with Jermaine's agent today [Tuesday].
"We will be forwarding an offer of a new contract to Jermaine now that our divisional status is known."
Earlier, Beckford's agent Nick Rubery had told BBC Radio Leeds that he had been trying to thrash out a new deal for his client for the last six months.
He claimed that in the absence of a new contract, Beckford's departure was inevitable.
"I can't see any other conclusion now," said Rubery.
"If there's no new offer coming in then Jermaine wants to know where he's going to be in the next two or three years.
"It's looking increasingly unlikely that it's going to be at Leeds United."
But Harvey said that he believed Beckford wanted to stay at Elland Road and was confident they could entice him to remain.
"I'd be disappointed if any Leeds fans interpreted what has been attributed to his agent as Jermaine's desire to leave.
"I understand Jermaine's desire to have his future resolved but I think there's plenty of time for us to resolve this matter over the summer."
Beckford has scored 54 goals in 99 appearances for the club since signing from Wealdstone in 2006 and has attracted the interest of other clubs.
He missed a penalty in Thursday's League One play-off semi-final, second leg draw against Millwall that saw Leeds miss out on promotion to the Championship.
Harvey said: "Having seen Jermaine's reaction at the end of Thursday's game where he was virtually inconsolable, that didn't look like the reaction of a person who was desperate to get away from a football club."

Free-scoring striker looking to thrash out future

Beckford: Seeking clarification
I don't know what Leeds are thinking with regards to their future plans and what part he might play in them, but it's something I need to clarify.
Jermaine Beckford
..Jermaine Beckford's agent claims the Leeds United striker needs to know if his long-term future remains with the League One club.
Beckford scored an impressive 27 league goals for the Whites this term, but disappointingly failed to find the back of the net in their play-off semi-final games with Millwall.
The former Scunthorpe United loanee has one year left on his contract, although his agent Nick Rubery says the 25-year-old needs to know if a new deal - something he will be happy to discuss - is in the offing.
Beckford, who has reportedly been interesting Coventry City, is keen to test himself at a higher level, but is not necessarily looking to hand in a transfer request at Elland Road.
Holding talks
"I'll be speaking to Leeds this week to discuss his position," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"He's got a year left on his contract and he needs to know where he stands.
"I don't know what Leeds are thinking with regards to their future plans and what part he might play in them, but it's something I need to clarify.
"Jermaine's scored a lot of goals in League One and he obviously wants to test himself at a higher level, but he's very open to the idea of signing a new contract with Leeds.
"He's not looking to move on, but his situation needs sorting out."

| I can understand the need to wait until we knew which division we were to play in next season - but having 12 months left on his contract worries me because if someone does come in for him then they could get him for a failry cheap price I would imagine |

And as per usual there is an agent in the middle trying to get maximum publicity for the player.
Read a few articles on the net, and his agent seems to swing from "we have heard nothing from Leeds, so it looks like he is leaving" to " we are waiting to receive the offer from Leeds". The longer it drags on, the more unsettling itwill become for the squad. And we still have to see what is going to happen with Delph, and Snodgrass will have attracted some admirers this year.

In this case alone, I dont have too much of a problem with it
The lad IS constantly the Leagues best goalscorer
He WILL be the target of other "leeser albeit higher" clubs
So if they are giving Leeds a first-option then all good as far as Im concerned

I don't like the way the agent is stirring it up in the press, but having said that I expect Beckford does want the situation settled and IMHO he's entitled to want the club's decision now rather than later.
With 12 months left on his contract, if the club want to sell this is when it'll have to happen, so Beckford will want to know what the intention is.
Personally, I think the guy's earned Championship level wages over the past two seasons and we should make him as generous an offer as the club can afford - bearing in mind that we can sell Beckford next year just as easily if we do the unthinkable and again fail to get promotion. To lose him now because we're not prepared to pay more than League One wages would be crazy, but at the end of the day it will post a clear message on how ambitious Bates really is.
We know Bates is prepared to pay Championship wages because Robbo will be at that level (we wouldn't have signed him otherwise, I'm sure), and I don't think many can argue which of Beckford and Robbo is more valuable to the team. Backford has proved his worth, Robbo is yet to justify his.
So my hope is we make Beckford a generous offer and put the matter to bed quickly. It won't stop all the speculation, but it will guarantee that if Beckford is to leave, it will be for a decent fee.

| SKYSPORTS wrote: | Bolton manager Gary Megson is not completely ruling out signing Leeds United ace Jermaine Beckford.
The Trotters have been linked with a £2.5million move for the striker, who has just 12 months left on his existing contract.
However, Megson claims the former non-league forward is not on his wanted list as he has now written up a list of targets.
Megson claims to have never divulged names of players he is looking to bring in and says the Beckford talk should be treated as speculation.
Beckford has stated the new season in fine fashion for Leeds with three goals in three league games, including Tuesday's stunning winner at Walsall
"You're going to get a lot of this kind of thing because people know we are looking for a certain position," he told the Bolton News.
"Agents see that window closing down and the gossip fills papers.
"It's wrong of me to say no, or yes, because it's an agenda that I haven't created.
"I've never told anyone the name of the player that we are trying to bring in - I don't do that." |
Does that all mean he is signing then
