When my daughter finished uni she didn't have a clue what she wanted to do apart from not have anything to do with computers. Bit of a shame that as her degree is in ICT! She 'temped' for a year working in various offices and decided to do the TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) course. She ended up teaching for a year in Central China in a university. She travelled around China whilst she was there and thoroughly enjoyed her year. It gave her a taste for teaching. She is now an ICT teacher in a high school.
What about doing TEFL? Get some life experience along the way. you never know where it may lead.

Anna - do you see yourself working for someone or being your own boss?
If you are not desperate for the money I would look into starting your own business
If you have the time to read a book go and get "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and see how many people you know fit into the category of the "poor dad" - after reading that decide which side of the fence you want to be on.
I can give you a few good pointers regarding starting up your own business.
First place I would start is www.google.co.uk/keywords - search for stuff you might have an interest in and look to see what kind of demand there might be for it (i.e. how many searches per month are taking place) - ensure all the "columns" are open and then look at how competitive the industry is (the box with the green inside - more green = more competition) - if you find something that interests you research how profitable it could be - would you be buying and selling something or would you be able to offer a service?
I have spent the last 9 months retraining - I have been involved in financial services since I was 18 and decided last year that I needed to get out (18 years later  ) - now I have set up an internet marketing company - its not hard to do, you just need to have the motivation (and a little bit of bravery to try it)
My last resort now would be to work for someone else |

Tommo - don't really fancy care assistant work
Ravey - so many nun jokes. that and the vicar ones. i respond always by saying i think you have to believe in god to do those things. while i find religion interesting, i have not yet become convinced about this 'god' 
- and i'm willing to work for nowt. like i say, at the moment it is more about the physicality of having a job to go to than the cash. the problem is getting someone to take me on.
30 Mill - how many people in life really know what they want to do? i believe that percentage to actually be incredibly low. i am certainly not alone.
NE1 - i've thought about teaching, and even went to a special needs school and a primary school for a day a couple of years ago. this proved to me that i certainly don't want the thankless (but brilliant) task of the special needs teachers i encountered, and i don't really want to teach younger kids.
i have thought about teaching, but i'm really not convinced it is for me. i look at my cousin who is just doing her first year as a qualified french teacher, and she is brimming full of enthusiasm and ideas - i just can't see me being anywhere near that.
i have a friend who does a similar thing to your daughter in hong kong (or somewhere of that order) but i'm a real home bird and moving to leeds (from wakey) for university was bad enough, i'd be nowt but miserable abroad.
it is an option i may explore, though i think if i was to do that i'd go in via a teaching assistant route.

Ok, so not been flippant here, although it may look like it is.
Just to get some work experience what about Call cente work, fast food outlets, bar work. the usual studenty type of work. Might not be glamourous, but it's work! |

Not necessarily - go along to any exhibition/trade day (especially franchise exhibitions) and see what types of businesses are there - see what they do, what services they offer etc and see if something sounds interesting to you. DON'T buy into a franchise BUT get the general idea of what they do - something might catch your eye
Out of this godawful recession many new entrepreneurs will be born as they will be FORCED to look at alternative ways of making money / earning a living as the safety net of a "job" has been taken away (unless you go and work in local government) *spits

| Army / Forces?? Good rates of pay, healthe and ental taken care of and cracking holidays each year, although the place is warm the beach is so big your miles from the sea. Lots of shells to look out for!! Friendly locals!! |

if you dont know what you want, or even dont have a direction you wish to travel in, you are fairly lost. If YOU cant decide in a direction, no amount of advice here will help you
You seem to me to be over 16. Your degrees and study also suggest this. I would suggest, firmly but politely, you figure out where you want your life to be and hurry and get there
One of the classic, well used open lines at any job interview, is "Where do you want to be in 5 years time?" You couldnt answer that if asked to you, could you

i never felt you weren't being serious, OR 'abusing' me. call it tough love if you want, but i do think you are wrong. i will turn 23 at the end of april, and a lot of people i know don't know what they want to do.
the successful ones are always going to be the ones who do know what direction they are headed in, because they know where they going they can work out the steps they need to take to get them that far._________________ |
