Pubs are ace  and only this country would allow its heritage to crumble away in the way successive governments here have. We got a special door for MPs in this pub, its called the exit. That said after this weekends London Rugby trip ill be giving it a rest till Friday

NHS workers always welcome here

We have a fine range of snacks too just dont be asking for any of that sundried oak smoked wild ciabatta malarkey. Pickled eggs are good today.

Wrong pub,  Have you tried the New Penny

Ahhaa another connoisseur. Barrel glasses are in the section marked for those that must. Otherwise straight glasses are standard issue here as is the sparkler on the dispenser

Thats more like it young fella. Course we got it, we got everything

Anybody even thinking about having ice in a draught drink will be escorted off the premises and thrown to the hounds.

Indeed it isn’t sir but we have a speciality breakfast drink in these parts called thunderbird.

One of the benefits of a virtual pub is that virtually any drink is available.
No matter how obscure, specialist or downright unusual, Halfa will probably be able to find it.
However with Halfa as the host, don't ask for a Budweiser, unless you're wanting something quaffable from the Czech Republic!

This inevitably brings us to the tricky but often overlooked issue of bar snacks.

Crisps are clearly permissible, especially traditional flavours such as Cheese and Onion, or Salt and Vinegar. Perhaps flavours as diverse as Roast Ox or even Prawn Cocktail can also be partaken of?
Peanuts, although not really British, clearly have grandfather rights and many be enjoyed in Salted, or Dry Roasted variants. Some pubs even have a nice glass case on the bar with a heat lamp in so you can enjoy your nuts gently warmed before tucking in.

But where do we stand on the trendy interlopers who are jostling for position on or behind the bar?
Scampi Fries - I'm fairly sure these are now universally accepted, mainly for the reasons that they don't actually taste like scampi, and the aroma being very similar to something altogether different when you open the packet.
Tortilla chips? Mmm, crisp-like, but a little triangular (possibly dangerous if used as a Shuriken?) and the cloying flavourings can spoil a pint.
Wasabi nuts? Now I've seen these in the Adelphi and the Scabby, peanuts (permissible as a solo snack) coated in wasabi. Lets look at the facts - wasabi is the Japanese version of horseradish and usually is served as an accompaniment to sushi. If we are to have coated peanuts, why can we not have horseradish coated ones? It seems to me that there is some marketing jiggery-pokery here, trying to make something sound fancier than it is - this is compounded by the increased price over a pack of KP or Planters uncoated products.

Anyway, while we ponder these imponderables (and who knows, maybe you have your own suggestions to add), have you seen those shores?

Wink

Summer Lightning Eh? Another top notch beer. Used to be Wetherspoons stock Beer and a fine pint it is. A tad strong for a session beer for me at least.

A good tip is to put a plastic sheet on your keyboard Boxy, don’t know about you but i always keep one handy  Cool .

Got a beer fest on at my local this weekend, popped  in last night and just about to head off for another sample. The Rat n Ratchet, Chapel Hill Hudders just out of town off the ring road. A quality boozer if your ever round that way
