Not sure if this should be in the current affairs section but....

I am sick to fucking death of being TOLD what to do by every fucker in authority / on telly etc. I have just watched an advert by our "government" regarding our carbon footprint TELLING us to turn our television off at night because it will stop all this global warming malarchy despite the fact that there are two astounding bits of evidence that say we contribute a minute amount of CO2 in comparison to the total amount being produced NATURALLY and that the most likely explanation is that the earth is moving through a natural cycle that means the planet will warm up regardless of what the fuck we do - politicians are so fucking full of their own importance that if there is mileage to be made out of something you can bet your bottom dollar they will be stood there in line to give their opinion, set their manifesto and build their plans around it until they can't be arsed any more. Remember the ozone layer and all the political football that gave them - seems its closing again Rolling Eyes

Which brings me on to eating - we are TOLD to eat 5 pieces of fruit and veg per day, 2 pieces of oily fish a week, multigrain cereal, and avoid red meat, beer, red wine - now that first "diet" sounds amazingly like a fucking liberal lefty hippy with their lentil soup and their vegetarian sausages - for fucks sake how long have we been around as race? and yet we hear it everywhere from when we get up - GMTV, BBC Breakfast through the day, on the news, on the radio, tonight with trevor, ITV investigates, you are what you eat, EVERYTHING TELLING US what we should be eating and what we should not be eating

Which brings me on to law and order - guess what happens when you put CCTV up to cover every inch of the UK - YOU FUCKING VIDEO TEENAGERS DOING NAUGHTY THINGS - don't get me wrong there ARE some fucked up kids out there but the majority are just doing the SAME things every teenage has done at some point or another - there was a clip on the news last night showing "youths" running over the top of a car with the title "OUT OF CONTROL BRITAIN" - well it must have been out of control 20 years ago because I have done that on the way back from the pub - it wasn't clever back then either but it was hardly out of control - I didn't go on to become some ASBO monster who had 20 kids at the age of 18 - instead we get it SHOVED down our throats every single day via all media sources - do you think the headlines would have changed 50 years ago if there was the type of media coverage / civil liberty intrusions that are now going on - or do you think the same things were going on back then - I watched a programme late last year with Griff Rhys Jones about him finding out about his past and he discovered his grandad had been possibly murdered in a fight outside a pub and when he researched it the reports were on page 5 of a newspaper in a tiny corner - thing is IF YOU REPORT IT ALL THE TIME - WE the general public - ASK FOR MORE CCTV - ASK FOR MORE BIG BROTHER WATCHING YOU - and yet the government don't actually give a fuck hence why they are now unlikely to throw people in jail for burglary (but they would throw YOU in jail should you clonk the person trespassing in your house and a threat to your wife and kids)

WHICH leads me on to civil liberties - now don't get me wrong some ideas seem logical - i.e. wanting to increase the time allowed to hold "suspected" terrorists to 42 days - that is 6 WEEKS - ON A SUSPICION Shocked

- ask yourself this - what would happen to your family home if you were thrown into the slammer for 6 weeks on a "suspicion" of terrorism - they don't have to have ANY evidence to do this - thats what they have 6 weeks for - how many of us would lose our income, lose our jobs, lose our families on something that THIS GOVERNMENT is TRYING to introduce

The problem is we now have so much technology that everyone with a mobile phone can be tracked by satellite - try ringing your "traffic line" on your phone and see how quickly it will tell you where you are - look how easy it now is to track using SATNAV - so suddenly a computer will be able to tell you where you have been, for how long you were there, what speed you were travelling - the list goes on and on

And finally the AMOUNT OF MONEY WE ARE NOW ALL CHARGED - ESPECIALLY FROM A TAX POINT OF VIEW - so I own my own business - which means I pay tax on the following:

Gas, Electric, Water, Telephone Line Rental, Telephone Calls, Mobile Calls, Broadband (VAT)
I then pay my "business rates" (TAX)
Then I pay tax on everything I buy - Laptops, Computers, Chairs, Tables, Phones, Fax Machines, Lighting, Shelves, Kettle, Microwave, Fridge, Presentation Board, Flip Chart, Desks, (you get the picture) (VAT)
Then I pay ALL my staffs tax (I know they feel like they pay it but I pay it because it is the money I earn that allows them to be paid) - I then pay tax on MY salary, then to cap it all off I pay TAX should I be remotely successful on any profits I make - then I pay all the professional bills e.g. Accountants and have to pay TAX on these as well - and to top it off I can't claim any VAT back as I don't (can't charge) VAT as I am in financial services - so i can PAY it but I can't CHARGE it.

Then I get my personal tax side - I'm taxed via council tax, vat on all utilities (a second time) , taxed on everything I buy, taxed on petrol, taxed for putting two cars on the road (maybe I should reduce this to one and save the planet Rolling Eyes

) - taxed on other premiums I have to pay

AND THEN...

We get council tax being increased by more than the average salary increased, food increasing dramatically, petrol increasing dramatically, energy bills being increased dramatically (shame they are not going to make their BILLIONS of pounds worth of profit Rolling Eyes

), mortgage rates get increased (although about to be decreased Razz

), so people have less and less and less and less to spend.

Actually I agree! My big bug bear is my expenses. We haven't had a rise in car allowance or mileage costs since 1993. I used to get my expenses cheque separately but now its goes in with my wage. So, I get paid (pay tax), put petrol in my car (pay tax) claim my mileage costs (pay tax). I am therefore taxed 3 times on the same bit of money! Outrageous!

They will promise you the earth, get elected, wait until your back is turned and then bend you over and screw you dry.

I genuinely believed that in 1997 we were witnessing the dawn of a new age in politics. Instead we've had different pigs with their noses in the same trough blatantly disregarding public opinion. Did you know for example that more new laws have been passed in the ten years since New Labour came to power than had been passed in the previous 50 years? I don't remember voting for the erosion of civil liberties, or having my wheely bin microchipped to give two examples at opposite ends of the scale.

Someone once said that anyone wanting to be a politician should be immediately barred from the job. I think they were right.

Boxy, apart from the bit about being told what to eat I agree 100%. I don't quite agree with the food bit cos they are just saying that it is advisable to eat such stuff as it's more beneficial to us to do so than to die eating processed shite that the supermarkets in this counrty seem intent on feeding us!

Just to add, I took Sam to his friday night Martial arts class t'other week and while I was out we had some little shit sneak in to the kitchen and knick my iPod and a mobile phone. The wife, on her own, chased the little bastard only to lose him cos of speed, or lack of it.

Police were at home when I got there taking details etc. I put my coat back on and went for my older son to go out and have a wee shufty. Copper said "leave this up to us mate." To which I replied, "whilst I have no knowledge of yoursef and you may be the best copper since Gene Hunt, 99% of the local population have no faith in you whatsoever. You may catch him, but what then? A. you have to prove it was him and then B. you have to convince the cps / court that he is guilty."

I walked off and me and my older lad and a few of his mates went looking. We found out who he is and where he is staying. Went round to his sisters house, but he had fled. He has gone to ground cos he now knows he has opened a real can of worms for himself!! He knows that if he gets caught in this area that broken fingers and hands are a tad painful.

Move forrad a week, the coppers have "somebody" and would like the wife to ID him. Off we go to chapletown nick to see said "somebody". The wife positively id's him, but due to different clothes, no hat and the cheeky little shit not smiling she was only 80-90% sure it was him. It was!! Guess what? Yup, CPS throws it out cos it's not a high enough %age to convict and the cost of the stolen items doesn't warrant it!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad

Word has now gone out that if he is seen anywhere in the area he will not be able to feed himself with his smashed hands, through his smashed mouth with baby food for months!!

Whats the fucking point????

Ravey, seriously, tell her, don't take anything for granted, we did and learned a lesson. It was only an iPod and a moby, but it could have been so different. Insurance has more than covered the cost of the stolen items so no problem, but the wife is still very upset that someone has been in the house uninvited! Lesson learnt and the door is perm locked now, or at least the chain on. I know we joke about me "aquiring things" but that joke has seriously backfired eh? Still were all well, thats the main thing.

Boxy, after watching Zeitgeist and other similar things I have come to the conclusion that the powers that be are letting things get so bad so that we will welcome the ever increasing removal of our independance and greater control.

Boxy that is possibly the finest rant of that kind ive ever heard. It’s no secret I expect, that by nature I am ahem “Leftish”. Only because I incredibly still retain a naive belief that all human beings, other creatures and the planets health are more important than the pursuit of profit as the sole goal of existence.

Believe it or not I actually agree wholeheartedly with your superb piece. Make no mistake either, that the kind of lefty politics I believe in are a million miles away from this lot in charge. I don’t give a knacker what wing people call these beliefs. The more I hear rants like that from every corner of society It is clear that normal people are utterly fucked off with what is happening. This exasperation and despair with modern governments and others in power cuts across all walks of life. The fact that each persons beliefs can be conveniently wrapped and labeled only provokes conflict and alienation which of course is exactly what these people want.

You can ridicule so called lefty loonies, commies, greenpeacers, weirdoes, veggies, socialist workers etc all you like but they too have exactly the same fears and despair with government as you do. The only difference is that they are prepared to galvanize and at least try to be active in their opposition. You might not agree with their ultimate aims but at least I think we all share the same opposition to what is happening. If we all took to the streets and organizes protests in the way they do perhaps we will be listened to. As it is we just turn against each other and that plays right into the hands of the minority who are actually benefiting and getting absurdly rich from the world.

I’ll have a rant as well since its open season Wink

and ill try to crystallize why I think the fear and control you so eloquently presented have become a daily part of our lives

The world is shrinking and its resources are up for grabs by hook or by crook. The planets land, industry and commercial wealth are in the hands of a tiny minority of the privileged few. These few effectively control the planet and are incredibly rich beyond the likes of us can even imagine. These people will stop at absolutely nothing to gain more power and wealth and are even more resolute to retain what they have. Government, Media, banks and the WTO are all in their pockets and on their payroll. There whole system works on the ethos of the poorer they keep the masses (us) the richer they become. However in this day of technology and mass communication they know that people are now getting together and collectively realizing how we are been shafted. About Twenty years ago they realized that this resentment would escalate to something much more threatening. They knew they couldn’t stop technology or the eventual but inevitable realization of us masses as to what was happening. They knew therefore the only thing they could do was divide us and divert us which they have done with remarkable efficiency and effectiveness.

They divide us by creating labels and categories for us and fabricate via the media nasty stereotypes of people that other people can despise. For instance there are two types of people I class amongst my friends who are particularly singled out. Left Wing Loonies and BNP Thugs. Both are the most passionate and caring people I know. They all share the same fuckedoffness with how things are run that they have become politicized and activated to do something about it. To a person they all share that same belief that what we have is not good enough and want a change. They all think the average person is been crapped on by government and want a better deal. I think we all want that as well.

More sinister, they divert us with fear and frivolity. First of all the frivolity. They have cultured a huge industry of absolute entertainment junk and ingrained a ridiculous all encompassing celebrity obsession into us all. They have saturated the airwaves, media and TV Channels with utter shite. They have rotted the minds of most people like sugar rots teeth.

Secondly the fear and this is perhaps the most sinister aspect of it all. We are all in the grips of fear. Fear is everywhere and I think forms the essence of your original piece.

Fear of foreigners with weapons of mass destruction. Fear of not been able to afford a house. Fear of no pension. Fear of youth. Fear of disease. Fear of destroying the planet. Fear of petty laws. Fear of offending anyone. Fear of health and safety. Fear of redundancy. Fear of non compliance. Fear of Benefit fraudsters. Fear of surveillance. Fear if Litigation. Fear of Terrorism. Fear of crime. Fear of Drugs. Fear of drink. Fear of Food
On and on and on etc etc

Most of this fear is fabricated and exaggerated bollocks but it paralyzes us and we have been saturated with it to such intensive levels that fear is part and parcel of everyday lives now. This fear has been used to justify and create laws and bodies to administer the laws, causing more fear. It is in these peoples best interest that we are constantly immersed in fear and conflict. It takes our free minds and injects us with fears, petty beurocracies and prejudices. Whilst we are all in its grips it stops us asking questions, mobilizing, converging and acting against the biggest fear of all. The fear that these tiny minorities of people in power, aided by the likes of Bush get global domination and crush any opposition to their megalomaniac intentions. Personally I fear this has already happened, what we are experiencing now is a consolidation of it. Giving up is not an option though.
