(from the YEP)
A MILLIONAIRE Leeds property developer has played down a suspected shotgun attack on his car.
Police are investigating an "attack with a firearm" – believed to be a shotgun – on a Mercedes McClaren car driven by Simon Morris, pictured, on an access road leading from the David Lloyd Sports Centre at Tongue Lane, Moortown, Leeds.
As reported in later editions of Saturday's YEP, the 30-year-old driver suffered superficial facial injuries when the driver's side window of his left-hand drive car was shattered by the discharge of a firearm, according to police.
The 26-year-old male passenger in the car had been uninjured and the car had been driven to a safe area where the police had been alerted after the attack on Friday night.
Inquiries by the YEP revealed that the businessman was Mr Morris who some time ago failed in his bid to purchase Leeds United of which he is a former director.
But Mr Morris told the YEP that though his passenger had initially feared it had been a shotgun blast which had damaged the car, on reflection he now thought it was more likely to have been a brick hurled by local children and youths playing in adjacent woods.
Mr Morris said: "We were driving along and there was a loud bang at the side of the car and the window smashed. My friend thought we had been shot and I got a bit of glass in my face.
"But I think it must have been a brick that was thrown otherwise I would have thought there would have been a lot more damage to the vehicle," he said. "Obviously we had to report it to the police."
Mr Morris said his injuries were very minor, did not require medical treatment and had healed quickly.
He added: "I think it was probably kids with nothing better to do in the school holidays messing about in the woods.
"We did stop, but could not see anything."
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman declined to confirm the name of the driver but said the incident was being investigated as a firearm discharge.

| One thing that really leaps out is that they can't tell whether it was a brick or bullet. Surely if it was a brick it would have landed in the car and likewise a bullet would have left a hole on it's way out or bedded itself into the car.

Apparently there is £20,000 worth of damage to the car, so it must have been a bloody big brick!
On a related note, there is a double page article on Mr Morris in this months FHM. If you weren't a fan before I'm sure the news he's worth around £69 million, has TWO McLaren Mercedes SLR's and is currently in negotiations to buy an £850,000 Bugatti Veyron may well change your view of this likeable chap. |

I believe he will buy the car on the tick, strip it down and sell all the parts individually then turn what's left into a supermarket trolley.
The only problem I can foresee is that he doesn't have a real pound to put in the trolley.
