King flies car 1,300 miles for repair

Mohammed VI of Morocco flew his Aston Martin 1,300 miles, from Rabat to Britain, to get it repaired.

The king even chartered a Hercules transporter from his air force specifically for the purpose of transporting the DB7 between the two countries.

The Hercules landed at an airstrip in Cranfield, Beds, containing just the ten-year-old car, one of a fleet of supercars owned by Mohammed, 46. A truck then took it to Aston Martin's workshop in Newport Pagnell, Bucks.

Morocco's closest Aston dealer is in Marbella, Spain – involving a 140-mile road trip from Rabat to Tangier, a 90-minute ferry crossing to Algericas then a 110-mile drive.

Tony Bosworth, a spokesman for Friends of the Earth, told The Sun the trip was "ludicrous". He said: "Planes are one of the most polluting ways of transporting goods. Surely the car could be fixed closer to home."

King Mohammed ascended to the throne in 1999. He is the eighth richest sovereign in the world, with an estimated fortune of £805 million, according to Forbes magazine, the chronicler of the distribution of the world's wealth.

Personally, I think it's a cracking idea. In the unlikely event that I can ever afford an Aston it will be maintained by Works Service at Newport Pagnell, so why shouldn't his Highness have the same high quality factory service?
