A mate of mine is a cracking plasterer (er...is that good )
Not the brightest button but his plastering skills are second to none
I've heard the intelligence problems runs through all plasterers
Isn't that correct AW |
Aye, we have to put up with idiots who think plastering is like painting their walls!! Constanly asking "is that right?" and "i wouldn't have done it like that" |

Put it this way - he used to have a kingsize bed in there and now he's got bunkbeds! |

I just don't understand "preperation stage" If the entire plaster has gone back to the brick, then one of two aproaches can be done.
A. Browning coats, usually two, then skim
B. Plasterboard then skim.
Maybe the prep stage is the browning. Thinking about it, that stuff is grey and rough, so most likely that. Never heard it called preperation stage though. |

Preparation is a big word for him and he probably just heard it on talksport minutes before I phoned him - it was the "stage" before he came back and skimmed it (which was incredible I have to say)
So it was the "pre-skimmed" stage (is that any better ) |
Aye, obviously the 1st coat, Browning! Not a lot of plasterers use that these days, usually board and skim now! |

The builder who has come today seems to think he could do the work within the next couple of weeks which whilst is good in that respect but does leave me wondering why he can do it so quickly when everyone else seems to be worked up
|
What he means is he'll turn up mid-morning the day after he said he would and then drink lots of tea.
At some point he'll launch into a destructive frenzy and rip out half the job. This will tire him out, so he'll then bugger off and you'll not see him for a week and his mobile will always go straight to voicemail.
Eventually he'll turn up for another half day when he'll finish off the ripping out phase. This will tire him out, so he'll then bugger off and you'll not see him for a week and his mobile will always go straight to voicemail.
You will soon get so used to your house looking like a building site that you'll forget what it looked like before and you will come to appreciate the layer of brickdust covering your prize possessions.
He'll finish the job just before Christmas whilst dropping lots of hints about Christmas bonuses and what a bad year he's had (despite him spending all summer working in Doncaster charging 3 times the going rate for flood repairs and then subbing all the work out to 3 Polish university lecturers who will work for minimum wage).
Hope that helps. |
