Now that I've got over the first flush of that "Welcome RobofLeeds" post (it's been a very emotional few days since then), I thought maybe I'd introduce myself, as that seems to be the done thing - although I've been here a wee while now. So I'm sorry this is late - I'm sure it's Armley's fault really though, which is meant to demonstrate that I'm up to speed with the forum rules.
Well, I'm Rob, and I'm a middle-aged middle-height man of cuddly circumference, and I reside in the noble bishopric of Normanton. I've had the mighty whites addiction since the early 70's and saw my first game at Elland Road in 1975 - we lost 2-0 to Liverpool. However, in my SECOND game, 4 days later, we beat Barcelona in the first leg of our Euro Cup semi triumph, so I'm proud to say my first live Leeds goal was scored by King Billy (with a welcome second following from Sniffer). Since then, I've had much the same ups and downs as you all doubtless have had, my highlights being some crazy days around the country in the second division 80's days, the wonder of the early Wilko years, the new dawn of O'Leary (before it all got out of hand) which took me to Barca, Milan and Madrid, and this latest incarnation of Leeds Utd which is filling me with a pride I've not known since the San Siro - let's hope it's built on firmer foundations.
My one outstanding memory, albeit I was more than a little hazy at the time, is being right at the back of the upper tier away end at Bramall Lane THAT day in 1992, when Brian Gayle scored the most beautiful own goal I've ever seen. So overcome was I, that I turned round and seized a minute and terrified St John's Ambulance man by his uniform lapel, demanding oxygen as I honestly thought I was about to pass out with the intensity of the moment. I think we all knew we'd won the league in that instant, but we had the confirmation still to come via TV from Anfield and then a party in City Square later on. What a day that was, and you never know, we might have similar days still to come.
Well I've rambled on enough. It's great to meet you all, thanks for the welcome, and I'll look forward to lots of debate, the odd moan and groan, and hopefully some celebrations in your company in the not too distant future
