Someone please tell me there is some good in news
68 under 25's killed on the streets of London in 18 months. I wonder what the figure is nation wide.
War and unrest rife in the Middle East.
Afghanistan no nearer to resolution than it was at the start.
Humanitarian disaster imminent in Burma.
Quake in China reporting thousands dead.
Global economic recession on the edge.
Basic needs costs like fuel, food and energy inflating at rates unprecedented in my life time.
Zimbabwe on the brink, and yet its powerful neighbours will not condemn.
I am sorry this is a doom thread, but I cannot remember in my life, so many sad and bad thing going on at one time. |

I share your sentiments Garp.
Things look bleak, they really do. But the human spirit is strong. It has survived worse, and I hope it is strong enough to move forward again. |

| Kinda makes you hanker for the good old days when the only thing we had to worry about was Russian missiles, Gonorrhea, Thatcher stealing our milk and whether we could stay in the first division or not.

68 under 25's killed on the streets of London in 18 months. I wonder what the figure is nation wide. - This I agree is diabolical. The youth attitude today over here (Im sure its the same in UK) is very depressing. Every generation of youth has the "right" to challenge the way their parents have, but all we ever did was listen to punk rock, and stay out late (1:00pm was middle of the night in those days). Too many alco-pops and too many late night places + just a hint of parental responsibility wouldnt go astray now would it???
War and unrest rife in the Middle East. - Ever since day dot mate - Go back 3-4 THOUSAND years ago and they've been trying to eradicate each other
Afghanistan no nearer to resolution than it was at the start. The start of what mate, Americas involvement, the Talibans involvement, or Russias involvement?
Humanitarian disaster imminent in Burma. - Sorry, shit happens, get used to it - depressing Yes, but something like this happens every 2 years or so
Quake in China reporting thousands dead. - See above
Global economic recession on the edge. - You read too many left-wing newspaper or Uni protests mate. Do you really see the rich nations getting "poorer"
Basic needs costs like fuel, food and energy inflating at rates unprecedented in my life time. - Belive the rate of inflation is still not that high - Go back 20 years and be really scared
Zimbabwe on the brink, and yet its powerful neighbours will not condemn. - Is it me or does anyone else notice that within 50 years of the British Empire departing most places go to hell???
I am sorry this is a doom thread, but I cannot remember in my life, so many sad and bad thing going on at one time. - Sorry mate, happens all the time - the world is NOT a perfect place

I really am trying soooo hard to resist posting the obvious response to that comment... |

A challenging comment
30Mill....Re: Burma....It is not the disaster that concerns me, and as if that were not bad enough. What is happening since the disaster is that the paranoid junta will not allow aide and support teams in to deliver support. The rulers are so intent on suppresion and secrecy that they would rather their brothers and sisters die.
Re: China....Yes natural things happen. It seems to me though, that they are becoming more frequent and on larger scale.
Re: Zimbabwe.....Africa is now, imo, answerable to itself on all such issues. No more crying colonial wolf.
Re:Afghanistan, I refer to recent involvement of western troops in the so called "war on terror".
Re: The middle east....Always has been a hot bed of unrest. I cannot rememjber it being this unstable.
Re: Economic conditions. Wealth is relative. So the rich nations will remain relatively rich. But there will be painful consequences within the rich nations, and only the very rich will escape the suffering. And yes, ultimately the poorer nations will remain poor or poorer as a result.
Re: Inflation....Fuel, food and energy are spiraling.
Re: It's a bad world....Yes I get that.....I've been here a while. I just think it is particularly bad at the moment......Cheers
