Do we get rid of them?

I am a huge dog lover BUT I fucking hate Rottweilers - how anyone could "control" one that decided it was going to "go" from someone is beyond me - they are big, muscley vicious dogs

I was up at my mams for Christmas and I was walking up and down their (long Rolling Eyes ) drive with my youngest daughter in her pram (trying to get her to sleep) and one of the neighbours was in his garage and a "rotty" started barking from behind the fence and it got me thinking about how I would react if it jumped the fence and came running over to attack me  Shocked (like you do  Rolling Eyes ) and I thought I would use its moment to smash it head first into a tree / fence or the floor - I was feeling quite confident I could handle that when a second "rotty" started barking at which point I thought I would be fucked if they both jumped the fence

Luckily they didn't but IF they had decided to there is no way on earth their "owner" could have stopped them - evil fuckers  Twisted Evil  Twisted Evil

Anyway Debate open

They do appear to be a dangerous breed, cple of days ago a nine week old baby was pulled from her cot and killed by one of these in Melbourne.

Missus's sister has 2 of these, and they're as soft as hell and so playful, but they're as strong as , but I would'nt trust em... and trust me Boxy, you couldnt take 1 on by yoursen..let alone 2.

Thats the issue - if the dogs do snap, no-one has a hope in hell of stopping them.
The incident in Wakefield was not the first time that police marksmen have had to shoot the dogs.

There are currently no checks on who buys these dogs and far too many are bought as status symbols by people who aren't interested in training them or making sure they are adequately supervised.
These are vastly powerful animals and they are amongst the most intelligent of dogs - don't forget they were bred for hunting, not being kept in a small house surrounded by kids.

I think it was Rotweilers who were rejected as police dogs for being too aggresive and too difficult to train (or it may have been Dobermans, another favourite of the status chasing types). I certainly wouldn't want to get in the way of one that was on the rampage.

I certainly cross the road when I see people walking them.

It's chilling to note that this latest incident has been suggested by the police to be "out of character" for the dog concerned, yet several neighbours are in todays papers saying they were terrified of the damn thing. It can't be both, so which was it?

Last christmas a girl was mauled to death by one, it`s time to put in place proper measures for dogs like that, neutering etc. And no way are they safe around children, would you let a child of yours near one?
They are a status symbol for the neanderthals in burberry, they shouldn`t be allowed to breed either.  Wink

But why have a 10 stone dog FFS - with all the will in the world IF it decided it wanted to attack no-one would be able to stop it

It was a family "pet" which was kept in a yard on a chain  Confused that sounds like a nice friendly pet  Shocked

Plus - and this is sending the thread in a different direction - how come the EIGHTEEN year old "mother" left her 1 year old child with her SIXTEEN year old sister who was looking after THREE children aged 7, 3? and ONE  Shocked and the SEVEN year old child decided to carry the ONE year old to the back door and show him? the dog whilst the SIXTEEN year old in charge of THREE children was "upstairs"

For Fucks Sake WHEN will someone in this fucking piss poor government START to try to do more with these people

I'm thinking of getting a black bear as a pet as its slightly less in size than a rottweiler so it must be safe  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes

There was some poor deluded woman on GMTV this morning.

She had two rottweilers and over Christmas one of them had gone postal and attacked a couple of kids (one was her daughter the other was a friend / relative). The daughter had both arms strapped up and looked to have got away with it lightly.

The dog that attacked her had been put down, the other one (loving named Tyson...) was staying with a family member until things had "settled down". The dozy mare clearly was of the opinion that evern though one of her normally placid, calm and loveable family dogs had attacked two small lasses apparently without warning, there was no danger at all from it's kennel mate...how the hell do you get through to these people?

So the real problem is problem owners. Have had dogs for over 20 years. If you know your dogs, you pretty much get to know what freaks them out, and how they are likely to react. For example, my collie gets very excited and hyper when there is a lot of coming and going, change around the house. So at times like Christmas, when we have the tree going up, people in and out the house, excited kids around etc. I am particularly aware of how he is coping. If it all seems to be getting a bit too much for him it is time for a change of scenery and calm down. You should be able to get to know the animal and read it to the degree that risks are minimalised to virtually zero.

The savage fuckers ought to be neutered with two house bricks, have all their teeth pulled out, impaled on a skewer, roasted and fed to starving Koreans. Their dogs need to be brought under control as well.

I agree with Halfa.  Dangerous dogs don't just happen, they are the by-product of being reared by ignorant, low-life, lazy, stupid owners.
